hi L - see ya figured it out.
I havn't used hormonal bc in years, so won't be much help. I do think this has been discussed some b4 - and that lots of women here have tried it or currently us it.. expect you'll get some good feedback once the sleepyheads get going In the meantime, you might try searching old threads for this topic..

    Hi,
I haven't tried the Nuvaring (I'm on the Pill) but as with any hormonal birth control the possibility is there to gain weight. Every woman's body is different. I haven't heard any news to the contrary, in terms of gaining weight exclusively on the ring. (I know that Depo Shot for sure makes bigger women gain weight and thinner women seem fine with it, I have heard lots of reports about that.)

What I can say is, if it is a concern, I don't think you'll put on too much. Remember that the hormones 'trick' your body into thinking it's already pregnant. So a little water weight while your body is adjusting may be possible. If you wind up gaining weight and it's a problem for you, then maybe it's not the right method for you. That's why there are so many products on the market. You never know what will happen until you try it at least for 3 months.

Don't know if that helps, I'm sure there are tons of topics on this in previous threads.

    Good luck!

You can gain weight with any hormonal birth control and there's a tiny chance of getting pregnant with all birth control. The nuvaring and most hormonal birth control is one of the most effective at preventing pregnancy. The only things more effective than that are IUDs or similar devices like implanon, sterlization, or abstinance. Not that plenty of people don't manage their sex life fine without any hormonal birth control but when we are just looking at the numbers it's one of the most effective so it's not accurate to avoid the nuvaring based on it a chance of pregnancy unless you plan to pick something with even higher efficacy like an IUD.

I actually lost weight on yasmin and haven't gained weight on any other of the 5 hormonal birth controls I've tried including the nuvarings. I also haven't gotten pregnant with 6 years of active sex life. Side effects are far from guranteed with birth control. I have some pills where side effects are guranteed and the list would shock you. I love the "may cause death" warning on some of them. Birth control is pretty darn mild and safe in comparison to what a good portion of the population gets convinced by doctors and psychiatrists to take.
