I just started taking birth control. I have only taken it for about a week and a half and I am having some bleeding (I guess break-through bleeding?). It also is sometimes brownish. I have had a little bit of bleeding for about a day and a half. Any help?

You body may not stabilize for a couple of months. It takes it a bit to get used to the hormones.

The brownish blood, may just be old blood, it happens to almost all of us.

Unless it is really concerning you, I would wait it out for a couple of months. If anything, call and at least talk to your Dr's nurse.

How long should I expect the break through bleeding to last and how much bleeding should I expect? I'm still bleeding and it's gotten more than just spotting but it's not a lot...

It's probably different for everyone. Whenever I changed up my BC, I had breakthrough bleeding for a few days, not a lot, a pantyliner was sufficient.

Maybe give it 5-6 days and if it hasn't stopped, call your Dr's office...

Every time I switched brands of pills I had breakthrough bleeding, up to a week. It wasn't heavy. If it gets heavier, or brighter, call the doctor. I spotted for 2-3 months after starting a new kind of pill, and still had regular cycles during placebo weeks. Like Lana says it wasn't anything a pantyliner or thin pad couldn't handle.

    Welcome aboard!
