    Hi Everyone

I got the Marina Coil fitted on 11t March this year and feeling really rotten with it. Think I have had about 5 days feeling good and thin. I have been told that it takes about 6 months to settle down so am willing to give it a try.

My husband and I made love the other night for the 1st time since having the coil fitted and it was great, however, next few days I felt rotten, cramps were terrible, bleeding started to get heavy again and I could feel the threads a lot more. My worry by feeling the threads more was that the coil had probably moved. My biggest fear is I do not want to get pregnanat. The threads have started to curl back up again this morning and pain not so bad.

    Is this normal?

My symptoms of being bloated, periods lasting longer, cramps worse and boods really sore are worse than ever before. I thought I had experienced sore cramps before I went on the coil but they have gotten really bad. The only thing I have been pleased about is that I have lost a wee bit of weight until my period due then I bloat up a dress size but I did go back down.

Look forward to any feed back.

i have has my mirena coil about 7 months for the first 3months it was awful with what felt like contractions and constant bleeding. i went back to the doctors who gave me a scan and found nothing irregular they just told me to stick it out basically. i did and it did calm down but recently i have been developing cysts and am unsure if the merina is connected. i aslo had my string cut shorter i should go softer after a while anyway.
as i said the first few months was terrible but its worth it in the long run i feel. i have a appointment in a few days about the cysts.
it should get better but its not for everyone i hope this helps

Thanks for replying back to me. Feeling really worse since I posted this early this morning.

Really thinking about going to Dr's as bleeding got worse and cramps really bad, as you say they are a bit like contractions!!!! Could not explain the pain but you have explained it for me.

Are your cysts in your ovaries? I had cysts removed back in 2002 from my ovaries and it took me 3 months to recover from that. Hopefully I don't get anything like that.

the cysts are on my cervix around where the coil string comes out or down the side pretty much everywhere inside they are tiny and only last a few days but when they have gone new ones pop up. i have no idea if i have any on my ovaries or not.
i got advised to take anti inflamitary painkillers all the time for the contractions and that and the bleeding calmed down.
when i have peroids now they seem to last a little longer but i bleed barley nothing.
at times i thought i couldnt continue with it but im glad i stuck it out really.

I am really not sure at all what to do now. I was really bad yesterday, went to bed last night at 6.30 p.m. with my boy to watch a DVD as I could hardly stand up. Feel bit better today however, can feel the sore tummy starting again!!!!

If things are still the same by the end of the week think I will be going to Dr to see what is going on.

that doesnt sound that normal to me.

    i had the mirena
but had to have it taken out as it turned out that it caused moodswings
which landed me in hospital (am bipolar)

have you used hormonal birth control before?
it might be that you're just not getting on with the hormones in which case you could try the copper IUD or a different method of hormonal contraception like the injection or implant or progesterone (sp) only pill.

if the coil moves or comes loose from its moorings
then usually you will have a *lot* of pain.
it can also cause inflammation of the cervix which can be painful and cause bleeding.

it will take a few months to settle down
but if its really causing you problems then i'd give it maybe another month and then try something else.
    it doesnt suit everyone
and there are other options available.

i think seeing the doctor is a really good plan
