Question Switching to Low Dose B.C.

I've been taking the same birth control for years and about 5 months ago I started to notice a very disturbing change!

Once my period starts my hormones are all over the place and my emotions get out of control! I don't take anything out on people, so it's not like I'm a monster or anything haha

But what happens is something really small will make me over the top emotional and probably make me cry my eyes out. But if I wasn't on my period, I wouldn't have been effected by it that much at ALL, and on top of that I NEVER cry.

So obviously this is a problem, and I want to ask my doctor about switching to low dose bc. My question is: Is low dose bc just as effective and reliable? How is it different and would it keep me hormones normal?

All birth control is low dose, the only thing that differs is which synthetic chemicals are in each pill and how they are released. If this is just a recent change then there may be something else going on other than the birth control. But you can still go to your doctor and switch to a different brand. For example if you are on a monophasic type (all the chemicals are released in the same amount each day) you can change to a bi or triphasic (chemicals are released in different amounts each week) and see if anything changes.

Ohhh I feel silly... I thought there was a difference between bc's because some say low dose on it and some don't.

If this change in me isn't from my bc what could it be? It's only during my period and it comes out of no where. I find that very odd.

Stress is the most common factor. If you do not eat a healthy diet it can mess up things internally and lead to emotional symptoms. Being tired or exhausted. Daily life can throw some less than ideal things at you and so on. Sometimes it is just the period itself. Not everyone will have an exact copy type period every single month, small hormonal changes simply due to the actual period can set off emotions. I am rarely emotional myself but every so often I do cry when I am on my period but not unless I am provoked with stress.
