what kind of birth control should i ask my doctor to give me. my period is for 7 days everytime i come on. im 16 years old and i want to have a 3 day period

Birth control pills might shorten it a little because there will be less tissue built up in the uterus but most still have 4-5 days of bleeding. There's really no way to suggest a certain brand or anything since everyone is different. Pretty much every pill or other form of hormonal birth control is a 50/50 chance on whether it will work without side effects or cause problems. You just have to try them out. I've taken 5 and only 2 worked well for me with only a little bit of dryness to deal with. The others were months of bleeding and misery before I knew it wasn't going to work and took another.
You can't really choose how many days to have your period, just tell your doc that you'd prefer a shortened cycle and make sure he/she gives you OPTIONS. And EXPLAINS them. Too often we get posts here to the effect of "My doc just told me about this one pill and now I'm here asking you all questions about it because I didn't ask any to my doctor help..."![]()
Assuming you are indeed wanting to go on the pill strictly to shorten your period, I would have to definitely recommend against that. The side effects many women suffer from taking the pill will override the benefits of having a short period. 7 days of period is better 30 days of weight gain/weight loss, hair loss, lack of energy, mood swings, decreased sex drive, and ultimately putting synthetic hormones in your body.
There's my 2 cents.
