I need the honest truth on weight gain and birth control - not the BS doctors will give you so that you take the pills.
I've been prescribed Yasmin pills, because I haven't had a period for about 7 months. I don't know whether this is because of iron deficiency, low white blood cell count, stress, worries, weight loss (even though I'm in the healthy weight range) or a lack of nutrients in my diet. I'm 16 by the way (turning 17 in November).
I know birth control pills trick your body into thinking it's pregnant, so then you'll pile on the pounds. I am not willing to endure this AT ALL. I'm so tempted to flush my pills down the toilet and never have a period in my life ever again. I don't even care if this will harm my chances of fertility later on. There will always be adoption.
When I gain weight, I experience severe break-downs, self-harm and I become suicidal. I suffer from depression, anxiety and Autism, which fuel my immense fear of weight gain. It looks like these pills will not be good for my mental health. I'm not willing to become a fat cow and jeopardize my sanity. I wish I wasn't like this, but I just can't help it.
I know this is sick, but I'd rather be slim and good-looking but be infertile, instead of being an ugly fat pig who can have kids and periods. I'm the sort of person who doesn't want children because they make you fat anyways. I don't think I could love something that would cause me distress in the process anyways.![]()

Oh jeez. :-/ Is this mentality the result of tv and movies and magazines? I wouldn't be surprised if it were, you poor thing...
Anyway to answer your question, you should have brought your concerns up to your doctor. This forum is very helpful, but why wait to get advice when you could do it immediately, while you're at the office?
The thing about birth control is that it affects women very differently, and different brands can also have varying effects.
In my experience, no birth control pill has caused me to gain weight, and I've been on quite a few.
If I were you, I would take it and just see what happens. However, I don't think taking birth control is a priority right now UNLESS you are sexually active. I don't think having a super delayed period is doing any harm to your body. But, when you do begin to be sexually active, having a regular period can let you know whether you are pregnant or not.![]()
I honestly think the only reason why women gain weight on birth control is because some may cause intense food cravings, and some just give in and eat whatever they want. I've never gained any weight from Birth control pills, and I've been on 3 different kinds. Sprintec, Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo, Yaz, and the generic of yaz. I couldn't take them anymore because they made me too moody and depressed. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep a healthy diet, and excercise, and you'll be just fine!
Thanks guys.
I over react a lot, but that's just my anxiety disorder I suppose, lol.
I've taken my 5th pill today - so far so good. I haven't gained weight, I don't feel moodier and I'm not in pain or anything. Haha.
The pill's function is not to automatically cause you to gain weight while preventing pregnancy, it is simply to prevent pregnancy. Any side effects will be on a purely individual basis. If there is a weight gain it can be attributed to countless other factors like stress, eating and exercise habits, vitamin deficiencies, the list would go on and on.
