    HI,
I had a iud fitted over a year ago now. I got told that my periods will stop all together but spotting would happen now and again but ive always had the spotting. Last week i went for a smear test and they told me they would check for the coil first but couldnt see the strings the doctor and nurse both tried but it was very uncomfortable so they have booked me in the family planning to have it looked at but now im having achings and cramps down there and still spotting has anyone else had this problem. Im to scared to go to the hospital or anything as its really uncomfortable.

after 4 years of having my iud they also could not see the strings
i had an ultrasound a few weeks later and there it was in place
I guess the strings can curl up...
they never dug around for mine as i could imagine that being awful! however i did have to get it changed under a general anesthetic
Maybe you are overthinking that because they couldnt feel the strings its hurting? or you are hurting from them digging around for it...
if its that uncomfortable though go and get an ultrasound for placement

    Hi There,
I am knew to the forum. Just joined today. I too wanted to share my recent experience with my copper IUD. I have had the IUD for 2 years now and just recently I have experienced some weird symptoms. I have had my period for 2 weeks now. My second week has been light, not like my normal period. However I am still bleeding and feel crampy, as if I was on my period. Anyway...I went for an ultrasound and everthing is normal. My IUD has not moved, but why the bleeding, why the cramping? I have a scheduled pap come Monday. I will make a choice there if I decide to keep it in or not. Anyway, I have done alot of research on the internet ever since I have been going through this. I have read similar issues on your case. Please do not be alarmed, many woman have gone through what you are, go the hospital and get it removed. Our bodies are clearly telling us something. We are pain and bleeding...get it checked out, see what they say. Hang in there.

    is it better now?
I would say the pain is from them digging around
it can be a really unpleasant experience

Is this the Copper IUD you are talking about? Because i had the copper one, and it sucked, i had it removed. Now i have the Mirena, and i never ever felt the strings, i basically think that if it was out of place or fell out, id have tons of pain, so i just leave everything alone down there, its not good to go digging for the strings since you may cause more problems.

Here we go girls i have had both the mirena coil had it removed after 12 months as just bled the whole 12 months, then had nothing for 18 months body went back to normal had my little girl then had iud fitted, since then i have spent weeks on end blleding like i am dying terrible cramping pains and yes u got it constant thrush... Every time i go to the doctors they tell me its all in my head and i know its not because i go buy canesten combi pack at a cost of £14 ago and bingo it goes well for a week or so untill i bleed again though it was me using constant tampax for weeks on end through sheer bleeding but no it is the coil giving it to me but yes the doctors will not say it has anything to do with coil,,, i am grumpy and constantly tired as no iron in body and no sex drive and work as cabin crew so bleeding 3 out of 4 weeks is not good..... I again this week have been to doctors and health clinic and have no answer have read forums and seen many off u suffering the same rubbish so yes girls thankyou i am having it rmoved this week.... I could be a millionair if i had a £1.00 for everday i have bled or had vaginal itching again the doctors dont even consider it being the coil i was examined by one nurse who said i am a nurse u do not have thrush i said i can tell u i do i been suffering along time.... She said no u dont i just examined u ... Left feeling like i was mad and then went to my gp and insisted on some test yes girls as i suspected they came back saying i had thrush only ...... Life has been a and do u no i have got to the point contraception for me is over my husband is getting the snip halllaluha .... I can look forward to life again girls thinking of getting the coil .....dont do it .... I will let u know if once removed my symptoms go im sure they will ... Its not nice being made to feel like its all in ur head ...... Xxx
