Default Decrease in sex drive when on the pill common?

I'm considering going on birth control, because I am young and I want to be safe as well as save parenthood for a few years. However, I've read a couple topics in this forum that mentioned dryness and decreased sex drive after going on birth control.
I'm wondering if that's very common, because if so, I would much rather look into another form of birth control that wouldn't have this side effect. My boyfriend and I have sex frequently, and it would be very emotionally distressing for him if he felt like he couldn't turn me on. And, of course, I want to enjoy him as much as possible.
So is this a common side effect? Just for certain types of medication, or all types of birth control?

I would say that it is a common side effect... it happened to me with both the Nuva Ring and Alesse, my sex drive decreased and I had a lot of problems with vaginal dryness. I still haven't found a method of birth control that works, though. I'm currently on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and now I'm having trouble reaching orgasm.

    Default decrease....

I definitely had trouble with decrease in sex drive with the common pill. However, with the Nuva Ring, I didn't notice as much of a decrease. I think it has a lot to do with what your hormone levels are to begin with - so each pill may effect each person to a different degree. However, it is a fairly common side effect.

I am trying to get pregnant so I went off my birth control which was ortho tricyclene & my sex drive has gotten so much better. I had no sex drive at all when I was on the bc. I went off in November & I can really tell a difference. I hope this helps.
