I am a 32 year old woman and haven't had children. My doctor & I decided that the mirena would be a good choice for me for birth control and period pains, plus I get terrible cyst type things on my face at that time of the month and they last for months and we thought the mirena might help that.
I had the mirena inserted a month ago, it was painful and have had cramps the whole month, but were getting easier and was all manageable as I knew it was only for at the most 6 months and the mirena is for 5 years.
Yesterday I went for a check up and asked her to cut the strings. While she was looking for the cut pieces she accidentally grabbed the mirena and pulled it out. I'm devastated. I live in South Africa and its not covered by medical aid and it costs a lot of money. The mirena is now sitting in the canal of the cervix. She has left it there to see if it moves back up or if it will fall out on its own. She has said she will pay for a new one for me but I don't know if I can go through the insertion process again. I can have a local anesthetic but that will cost a lot of money and I just cant afford it. I am seeing her again on Friday to see where it is.
I don't know what to do. Has anyone else ever had their doctor accidentally pull out their mirena?
