Hey my doctor has recomended IUD for me. I have one child, I am 23 years old. I am really interested in what the opinions are of those who have used IUD before, I would love to hear the real pros and cons. Thanks !

I dont know much about the paraguard (copper) IUD. I wouldnt recommend the Mirena to anyone. I had it and had terrible side effects (mood swings, depression, acne, hair loss, no libido, vaginal infections, I always felt like I was in a fog). My dr told me none of these things were from the device. But how can that be if I was fine before ? I called the manufacturer and they told me they were side effects so the dr's dont even know. I removed it after 11 months and as you probably guessed I am back to normal. After doing some research I learned that the depo and nuvaring both have this same type of hormone. The nuva ring has the exact same one and the effects I experienced are all listed side effects. Go figure. Mirena is supposed to be local but everything goes into your bloodstream. I did a poll of Mirena users on another board. There were 47 people who hated it due to side effects and 13 that loved it. That is scary odds ! This board has many stories of how terrible this device is for some women.

    Default Don't do it

I have a copper one it will last 10 years. I have had it 3 years and will get it out very soon. I have had a BV for 2 years now and I never had one till I had this sucker put in. Good luck but I would suggest you don't do it!!!!!

    Default Depends on your body

Some people have had massive problems with the Mirena IUDs, but I've had one for two years and loved it! I've never had children, so it hurt like **** going in and afterward for a while. I've really only had one unpleasant experience with it, the strings (which I asked them to leave longer) sometimes poke me and it's uncomfortable until you move them. Other than that, the thing kicks ***! I've not had a period since I got it and my partner never felt the strings.

You can talk to your doctor and do your research, decide if you want to chance being one of the unlucky people who do have problems with this kind of device. Ultimately, you won't know how your body will react to it until you've had it in. Just my 2cents!

    hello there,
well i also had the copper iud and i absoultly LOVE it!!!!!! it does indeed last for 10 years and it does not contain any hormones at all which was wonderful for me. it is a little painful going in though like a severe cramping. it is a good option for someone who has only one partner. the only adverse reaction i ever experienced with it was that my period was slightly heavier. not to much difference. i had it in for 5 years and never had a problem at all. removing it was a breeze didn't feel a thing when they took it out. well good luck in your decision.

I had it for about 2 weeks and got it taken out. It hurt so bad I was miserable. I would cry all day long. Prior to it I had 2 set of the norplant. I loved the Norplant I wish they never banned it from the states. After the IUD I went to the Depo Pro, it is ok but I have to take calcium pills now bc my bones are weak.
