Major headaches-dr wants me off the pill!HELP!
Hii! Ok post #2...first one got deleted ugh!
I have headaches. Bad ones. But I always have. But now they're super bad. I think its the computer/tv (I'm up for new glasses) ...or my neck (I need to go to the chiro cuz its all tweaked)
...My doc thinks its the pill (I've been on ortho tricyclen for 3 mos. now) so she wants me off if the headaches aren't gone in a month. She freaked me out with stories of strokes and blood clots. She wants me on nuvaring...
I wanna stay on the pill because its easy (I have a routine down), I have regular periods for once in my life, and its not touching my body (yes, that sounds weird but I have the most sensitive skin in the world) INCLUDING my cervix which has been getting cysts on it lately (scary) ...especially when talking about stickin a nuva ring right up against it.
If I had regular periods (without the pill) I'd even try natural planning. I hate any type of drugs even aspirin, and I don't even like the idea of the pill and its fakey hormones. ALSO, I have chest pain (started way before the pill) and my mom had a stroke when she was 19 (may or may not be associated with BC) those things plus the headaches DO NOT make me a candidate for the pill. . .
I want whats best for my body but I really hate change and I am just super duper glad that I didn't react negatively to the pill!!!!
Please help - any info on nuva ring, headhaches, chest pain, hormones, and other forms of BC that YOU like would be awesome! Thanks ...

Birth control causes me to have migraines as well. Truthfully I haven't found a form of hormone birth control yet that doesn't give me headaches. I liked the nuva ring (because I suck at remembering to take pills). Once you insert it, you can't feel it at all, plus it can be removed for up to an hour for sex. You take it out after 3 weeks for your period, at that time you are also protected from pregnancy. I'm sensitive too, but had no problems with it. It's made out of a soft material that slowly releases hormones into your system. Another alternative is getting fitted for a Diaphragm, FemCap or Lea's Shield. These are all things that cover your cervix during sex and in conjunction with spermicide work decently well (though not as effectively as hormones). Or you can use the good old condom with some spermicide for added protection (extra sensitive durex condoms aren't that bad).
If you're worried about your partner complaining about 'not being able to feel you' through a condom, or feeling the Diaphragm, tell him about your health problems and concerns. If he's worth being with at all, he'll make sacrifices to accommodate you and listen to you. Your health and well being should be put foremost.

Hi
im glad im not the only one getting these migraines and i sympathize with anyone who does as i know how it can be, but can you tell me did anyone not have a problem with them before, while they were taking the pill, ive been on the combine pill since i was 16 and im now 33 and ive never had any kind of migraine, my doctor has changed my pill 3 times and the latest one is the mini pill as its the progestogen only pill to see if that stops my migraines, my other half said that i should come off the pill for a month or 2 to see how it goes,
any ideas would be a great help

I am surprised to hear that your doctor suggested Nurva Ring. I was told no when I aksed about it and my migraines because I was told it still containd the estrogen which was supposedly causing my migraines and it was just a different means of getting it into my body. I was on Yasmin for almost three years and thought it was perfect until I had my first migraine. Ouch
I had never had one before and they just came on one day and then I had three of them in one month, all with visual disturbances. I had two physicians both inform me of the health risks of stroke associated with estrogen containing birth control and migraines, especially those with aura. She immediately took me off the Yasmin and put me on progestrin only which took away the headaches instantly, but caused so many other side effects (extreme bloating to where my clothes would not fit, gas, spotting, extreme dizziness, crying spells and the feeling like I had to urinate all of the time which was probably due to the bloating) that after two and a half months I could not take it anymore. She was extremely cautious about putting me on anything with Estrogen since she was concerned that the headaches would come right back but I finally convinced her to try me on Loestrin 24 which has even less estrogen than the Yasmin. I did have one migraine about two weeks into the first past but that was about three months ago and I have not had one since. With the lower dose of estrogen though there is still some uncomfortable bloating and the feeling to urinate still but it is nowhere near what it was on the progrestrin only. I am going to try to work through it and hopefullly it will settle down some in the next few months. Otherwise I'll have to try I don't know what! Good luck if you get the Nuva Ring. I hope it works out for you, I know how frustrating it can be when options are limited and you don't feel well.

I get really bad headaches all the time, almost everyday. We thought it might be from birth control also, but i wasn't sure b/c i have always had them. I quit taking the pill in January and my headaches are definitely not going anywhere!!! Quitting the pill didn't work for me, but if it is a possibility you can try it and if it doesn't help then get back on it!
