Hi There. I just want to say that, contrary to popular post, the Paragard IUD is not scary at all! I am 26 and have never been pregnant, and I think this IUD is great because I don't have to fuss over taking pills, and don't have to worry about harmful chemical side-effects. Aside from some dizzyness after insertion and somewhat heavier periods, this has been completely painless. I encourage potential Paragard users to get all the facts from their doctors and give it a try. It has been great so far!

Hello ladies! Yes, I'm still alive.. Very much so indeed I lost count of how many days I've had the paragard (but my earlier posts still state it). I have not had my second period yet so it's still relatively early but I'm still saying the same thing. For someone who is a big wuss about pain I can't believe I don' have more complains.... any really. I did notice the extra...lube.. lol. But that is not a big deal with liners. Not to be too personal but.... If you haven't had the chance yet to....see that..."advantage' in the.......bedroom, just wait lol. I've been with my boyfriend for 2 years and it was like we were teenagers lol. I think it's more about the mental issue of not worrying about an unplanned pregnancy for me because I stressed about that ALOT. I seems to let you relax more and enjoy without stressing and hearing screaming babies in your head while yer.... uh... yeah I'm sure I'm unusually paranoid lol. I have not had alot of new cramping... Just a few pings now and then but nothing even that noticeable or lasting longer than a few seconds up to a minute max. I would be happy o answer anyones questions (just from personal experience.... I am in NO WAY a doctor or in the medical profession lol). Every woman is different but Pragard has changed my life, my stress level and enhanced my relationship like nothing that I ever thought

Oh, I'm soo glad to hear some positive posts!
35yrold, those pings are normal. I got them too. Going on 4th month and I don't get them anymore. As for natural lube, I have too much I think. Kinda of annoying, cause I can't feel my hubby. Any thoughts from anyone on this.

Hi, someone was asking about the vitamin that helps control the side effects of copper, I know it was a while ago but I thought I might be able to help, you could try increasing either your calcium or your vitamin D or both, these should help your body balance out. Also the amount of copper shouldnt cause metal poisoning in most people, but if your concerned talk with your Dr..

I do not have a ParaGard, I have a Mirena. However, I have in the neighborhood of 10 friends who have ParaGard and all of them dig it. The only complaint I've ever heard from them is heavier periods and more cramping. Only one of them has this been a consideration for having it removed (I'd assign that event a 20% probability...it doesn't bother her *that* much and she honestly can't remember what her periods were like before 10 years on the Pill).

Since you're sensitive to hormones, ParaGard is one of the few non-permanent options available to you. It's 99.8% effective. Diaphragms/cervical caps/condoms/spermicides are dramatically less reliable. If you don't want your tubes tied or to get Essure, a ParaGard is a good option, it seems. You tolerated having the Mirena inserted, so ParaGard shouldn't be a problem. Good luck with your decision!

    Unhappy Worst experience EVER!!!!

So, here's the deal..My body is pretty sensative to things, so when my doctor brought up Paragard, i was sceptical. I have the Noraplant, when i was 16, she said it was no different except no hormones, and it was implanted in my uterus. So i got it done, no problem..Didnt hurt going in at all.. About 5 hours after it being put it, i started having HORRIBLE cramps. I just shook it off to be normal. 2 days after i felt a stabbing feeling right through my belly button. I knew something wasnt right, and having sex i felt like i was going to die!! So the next day i went to the doctor, she did a pelvic exam and said everything looked to be fine, but to be on the safe side, she wanted to do a ultrasound. And sure enough, it was pushing its way out and was stuck half way in my uterus. Got the worst infection of my life. Had to be on antibiotics that incompasitated me. I couldnt do anything. And this was August of last year. Since that, i have had a miscarrage, and nothing is the same as it used to be befor the paragard..I do NOT recommend it to anyone!!!!! I am now dealing with tendonitis, due to the Levaquin they had me on

Angel218 sounds like you were expelling your IUD. This happens within the first 3 months or even sooner for most of us. You didn't state whether or not you have had kids so I'm going to assume you have not had any kids prior to your IUD insertion. There is a higher risk of expulsion for women who have never had kids. I'm sorry you didn't have great success with yours.

    Paragard user.

I thought Norplant was implanted in the arm (not uterus) and has been off the market for a while??? Perhaps I am wrong...

babygap, this thread is about the Paraguard IUD, it's a non-hormonal T-shaped device that is implanted in the uterus.

I want to thank all of you for the feedback. Like many women I have been reading nothing but horror stories about iuds, and this had made me feel tremendously better about my decision. My current birth control pill is making me crazy, sex painful, my skin a minefield, and my libido non-existent. I am going in next Friday for a paragard, wish me luck. Also, could anyone please reassure me that paragard will not cause a well endowed boyfriend nor me discomfort during sex? oh and one more thing...is there any risk of copper toxicity? I've read and read, but not yet found anything conclusive. Not surprised though because, after all, women's health is not taken seriously enough to spend money to do extensive research. Thanks though for this website
