I've been taking Birth Control for about 9 years now. I have been on the same birth control for about 8 of those years. I have had no problems and honestly since about 3 years in, everything has been great. My hormone levels appear to have balanced out. I have no issues regarding sex drive or additional weight gain, and I love the ability to skip my cycle when I have something important going.

The big issue is that my bc is REALLY expensive. I just switched health insurance providers effective 1/1/11 and I don't even get an adjusted price anymore so to stay on it, is going to cost me $80 a month. I have thought about maybe switching to another pill but I don't really want to mess with that again so I am thinking about just getting off of it for a while.

For those who have gotten off the pill, how long did it take your cycle to balance out? My cycle was never normal before so I dont' know what to expect.

Also, what form of Birth Control do you use now? I definitely am *not* ready to have a child and I am sure eventually will have the need to use something again...

Coming off of any pill it will take anywhere from a month to 6 months or so to really get everything balanced, also depends on how well you reacted to it while taking it. If it was a real hassle while on it then it may be a real hassle to get balanced type deal, and since you were fine on it then there should be no issue coming off. That said, nothing is absolutely predictable. I have been on Tri-cylcen and now Alesse. The tri-cyclen sort of lowered my sex drive but no other major symptoms, I came off that for about 2 months as I had to wait for a doctors appointment to get the prescription for Alesse. In that time that I had no bc in me there were no issues with my body not coping or getting used to it not being present. Cycles were still regular and nothing was amiss.

Not sure why your bc is so expensive though, with my insurance which is just basic I paid $2.90 or something for Tri-cyclen and now about $3.50 for Alesse.
