    Default Depo Provera

I've only been a member of this forum for about 15 minutes and this is already my third post. I have lots of questions and this post may be extra extra long.

Okay so it all started after I lost my job on Aug 7th. on Aug.29 I got my period and my periods would usually be every 3 months give or take and would be so heavy I'd have to be in bed almost the whole time. I've been diagnosed with PCOS & I'm 20 yrs old weighing in at a horrible 290.

Well this time on Aug.29th my period was normal, and after a week and half it started going crazy. One day I'd bleed, a couple days I wouldn't.

So I finally went to the doctor sometime mid october, she prescribed provera 10 mg, I took that and nothing worked. We ran multiple blood tests along with having a pelvic exam which only showed a very thick uterine lining. on November 6th, I went back and since that was a saturday, my regular doctor was not in. Her partner ended up seeing me and gave me a shot of Depo Provera. She never gave me ANY information on the drug she just said my only option was to take the shot or go back on provera pills. I was in tears the whole visit because my period had gotten so out of hand it was horrible.

So finally on Dec 15th, my period went away. I've bolded this because it's seems to be playing tricks on me. on the 15th, it went away, came back, went away the whole time I was having sex, and its sort of came back. I'll very very very lightly bleed at some times during the day and then most times, I won't bleed at all.

So the depo may have worked I'm not sure? It just really depresses me that the doctor gave me no information about it and that after reading about it, i've learned that it could take a year or two to get pregnant, then you may have complications with the pregnancy. I highly doubt i'd be getting pregnant in the next year but the THOUGHT kills me. Is there any type of action I could file against this doctor?

Please share your experiences with Depo for me. For the first two weeks I was so nauseous and couldn't eat without having the feeling of wanting to vomit.

sorry for such a LONG post!!

I've been on the depo for years. It does drastically reduce or even completely stop your period. Mine has stopped entirely.

Because the dose is so big (you only need a shot once every 3 months), there is a risk that it can be difficult to get pregnant after stopping until your hormones get back into balance. They say 2 years, which I've heard is the absolute maximum if you've been on it for a VERY long time and your body is sensitive to hormones, so it has a more difficult time getting back to normal. I don't know this first hand though, because I haven't stopped depo or tried to get pregnant. I do have family that stopped and she was able to conceive that year, once she got her period back and it was regular. And the birth went fine, no complications.

Call your regular doctor and set up an appointment for a consultation. Your Dr's partner sounds like a jerk or just giving you depo and not explaining anything to you. I'm not sure that there's anything legal you can do.. the doctor told you what she was going to do, and you let her, so you don't have much to stand on there, even though it wasn't right of her to do!

If you're uncomfortable with depo, talk about other options with your regular doctor, because there are TONS out there - you're not stuck with depo or nothing.

Definitely call your doctor (not his partner) and get in his office to discuss your concerns, your feelings, etc. Give your doc a chance to rectify this. You are NEVER required to take any drug, and no doctor can or should try to force you to. You are not a weakling.....this is YOUR body, your life and you've got to take charge of it girl.

My cousin was on depo for 10 years and never had not one period throughout the whole time. Now she's been off of it for a year trying to get pregnant, still hasn't had a period, has tried chlomid with no avail, and now hormone shots with no avail. This is not to say she'll never get pregnant, but I'm super leary of anything that causes that kind of long term effect on my body.

I went back to my doctor after getting my pelvic exam results that she wanted to go over and I let her know that I was ready to make a complaint against her partner and all she could say was "i'm so sorry" SHE is a very sweet lady and I like her so I kind of feel like I don't want to do that to her practice although her partner was completely unprofessional.

I only took one shot of depo which was November 6th, and I'm due in february for a 2nd but no way in would i ever do that again. She referred me to a gynecologist to see what they would say but my insurance is tripping right now so I need to find a gyno that's currently accepting my insurance.

I wanted just regular birth control pills but apparently the 2nd doctor said it wouldn't do anything to stop my current period. But hopefully its gone, or it's leaving right now lol. and in february I will be finding a much safer pill to get on and regulate my periods.

    Thanks so much girls!
