I am 5 months pregnant with my first child. I want to know when I should start using b.c. after my pregnancy, and which birth to use. I have had a horrible receding hairline from Levora b.c. pill, so I don't want to try that again. Also, has anyone tried anything that they really recommend/don't recommend. Thanks.
hey cali!
After giving birth to my first child, I didn't want to go back on the pill because of all the health risks involved. I started researching other forms of contraception and started using a cervical cap called FemCap (which is really similar, but smaller than a diaphragm). Experiencing my natural cycle and being off the hormones has been excellent and I wish I would have switched to non-hormonal birth control a long time ago. There's no weight gain, emotional instability, and I like the fact that I'm not putting anything unnecessary into my body. To make contraception even easier, I started using a fertility monitor called Cyclotest 2 Plus, which uses your daily temperature to see if you are fertile or not--that way, I only have to use my FemCap on the few fertile days of my cycle instead of every time I have sex. Unfortunately, many women are unaware of these natural forms of contraception because we're always prescribed the pill as soon as we're sexually active, without even being told about alternatives. I hope this information helps--I encourage all of my friends to start looking into alternatives to hormonal BC (especially if they'd experienced negative results like receding hairline, etc).
