Hello, I'm 21 years old. I'm experiencing some period like symptoms and I just started birth control. Hoping someone could help me out???

About 3 weeks ago I decided to be put on Birth control. I've never been on it 'nor have i been sexually active. 3 weeks ago I went to my gynocologist and he prescribed Loestrin. I had finished my cycle earlier that week (my appt was on a friday I had finished my cycle probably tuesday or wed). He told me it was safe to start it and in two weeks the pills would take effect. I started it the following morning. Everything has been fine. I waited the two weeks and started my first sexual activity ever last Friday (Aside from when I was raped a year ago). Over the course of the weekend we had sex ALOT! He pulled out and we used a condom every single time. It didn't hurt or anything. I started to bleed after sex once, but we were going at it rather roughly. After the weekend we hadn't had sex for a few days. I was in a lot of pain and had sex a few times this week but it really hurt and I spotted a few times after sex. I've asked around they say this is due to too much sex and this was a trauma for my body?

Anyways last night I started spotting, without even just having had sex. And I started to experience cramps. I still have them. This morning I was actually bleeding, not full blown where I need a tampon, but more then spotting. I don't start the inactive pills for two days. Is this just my body getting used to changes? I called a nurse at a hospital last night and she says she thinks it's just my body getting used to the trauma of a lot of sex, and the cramps and bleeding are from starting the pill? What do you think? Am I getting my period while I'm using the active pills? Please help!!!

I also want to add I have been very diligent in taking my pill. I have taken it at the same time every day. I Also had a pap smear when I went to the gynecologist 3 weeks ago. I got my results last week he said everything was fine.

    Hi,

Yes, it's entirely possible--and probable--that your cycle is simply adjusting to the pill. The normal starting time when you begin your very first pack is usually either the day that your period starts or the Sunday after your period starts, which is about a 6-day spread--in other words, you can start taking it as much as 6 days into your cycle. Since the pill will take control of your cycles, it and your natural pattern might conflict for two or three months. So I wouldn't worry about it. after a few packs your cycle will probably become extremely regular--I can pretty much set a clock by when I'm due every month.

    Hope this helps. :-)

I forgot to mention in my previous post--as long as you take the pill properly, pull-out and condom don't add much at all to your level of protection. He can release inside you without a condom with still a 99% level of pregnancy protection (IF you take the pill correctly). My fiance and I haven't used condoms in about a year. He ejaculates in me practically every time we have sex and I've never had a pregnancy scare the whole time.

    HTH. :-)
