Hi ladies.I'm new to the forum and to birth control so - hello!
I'm a teenager (yes, younger than many using the birth control) and recently my doctor suggested I begin using birth control pills as a hormone balancer. (I get my period very heavily and very frequently.) As I've never used birth control before she picked YAZ to sample, since it has a lower dose of estrogen and she personally had had the best luck with it.
I've been reading online about women who have used birth control pills, YAZ in particular. Some sound great, but others sound really terrible... from pain, to irregular bleeding, extreme depression/anxiety, emotions "flatlining" - never able to get particularly happy, etc. Plus there's the whole "still getting pregnant while on birth control" fraction of an issue, but as I'm not having sex this isn't a worry to me.
This has, honestly, scared me. I admit I have a bit of the stereotypical teenage mood swings, and I suffer from some anxiety/depression but not much. I'm afraid that I won't be "me" (not like I have any idea who that is, right?) while on the pill and wondering...is it even worth it? Yes, I bleed way too much, but it's manageable I guess. I've been living like it for quite a while.
So am I crazy for being so freaked out? Have any of you used YAZ and how did that go for you?
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
Welcome to the board. I'm afraid I can't give you a whole lot of help, for the simple reason that every woman reacts somewhat differently. A pill that works fine with one woman will give another all sorts of side effects. really the only way to find out how you'll do with a particular brand is to try it and see. It also may take two or three cycles before you know for sure how you'll do on it long term.
I think Yaz has been getting some bad press lately--I don't know for sure. But even if it is, the only way to find out is to try it.
Sorry I can't be more help.
