    Default spotting with the pill?

I am 24 yrs. old, in otherwise good health, but I am spotting, or at least having bloody discharge between my periods right now. It isn't a lot of blood, but I have never had this happen before, and this is the third day I have noticed it. After my last period, I started using Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. I have been on birth control pills before (Yasmin) but never Ortho, and I had been off of Yasmin for approximately a year now. Also, I was late taking a couple of pills. Is this normal? Should I be calling my gynocologist? I just had my annual check-up as well as bloodwork done by my primary physician and all tests were normal. Neverteless I am worried because this is new for me. I am not in any pain, although I have noticed more constipation lately. I recently had an ovarian cyst rupture, but I was told by the hospital (upon ultrasound examination) that I didn't have any other big cysts, and that seems unrelated in any case. Any help?

Any time you start taking birth control it can throw your period off. Birth control changes your hormone levels and your body needs time to adjust and "normalize". Each woman can react differently to each kind of birth control. It is normal to have increased bleeding, spotting, or no bleeding at all. It is also normal to notice a change in mood swings, weight, and acne as those are all controlled by your hormones. You doctor would tell you the same thing. Your period most likely will normalize in the near future to either a regular period or no period. Keep in mind, it can take a couple of months for your period to become regular while on birth control. If it does not, then I would contact your gyn.
