I've had the copper IUD since November 19th 2010 and my last period was January 22-29, I'm over 45 days late and in the past 2 weeks had very sore nipples but the pain went away a few days ago. I took a pg test last friday it came back negative. I'm not sure if I was ovulating during the time my nipples hurt but I have not experienced any other symptoms except for a cyst in my right breast. They are not bigger or feeling full. I haven't had sore nipples in years, I'd say at least 5yrs, it was just too weird.

I am also experiencing lots of pain on both sides of the abdomen, sometimes usually on the left ovary the pain shoots into my thigh. I was thinking I may have another cyst, but in both ovaries this time. Before my last period I had a cyst in my right ovary that caused me a lot of pain but it passed during my period. I have also noticed an increase in acne.

I'm thinking of doing another pg test just in case. But this is starting to drive me nuts. I was so stressed between Dec and January about being pg and I was expecting to have another period by march 8th; it's now the 11th. I know the iud is still considered fresh since it's only been 4 months, but c'mon. Dang. this is crazy!

    comments, advice, opinions..something? thanks!!

It sounds like this form of protection makes you more anxious than anything. Have you thought of an additional/other protection method?

We can't tell you whether you are pregnant or not (only a doctor can) but do take another test and visit a doctor if you are concerned.

The pain you describe sounds like it's caused by the cysts.

I guess it is maxing me anxious, I don't want it to fail, I got it so I can't have kids anytime soon. I already have one and i'm a single mom dont feel like being a single mom of 2 kids. Even my boyfriend has had dreams of me telling him i'm pregnant. I try to reassure him since the IUD is still in place and that its 99% effective. I've thought about using condoms again and the IUD for backup in case it breaks. I can't be doing this every missed period.

Is it possible to have a cyst in each ovary? Because right now i'm experiencing some pretty heavy pain on both sides of my ovaries, feels like contractions lol and the gas has increased substantialy, whole lower abdomen aches.

Ok this is an update...Nipple pain went entirely away, I've developed a couple cysts in both of my breasts, the cramping still continued, however about 4 days ago, I had such severe pelvic cramping that I was in tears and it caused me to (eh, have horrible bowel movements for hours) I lost about 5lbs that night. The cramping was definitely near my ovaries. Since then the cramping calmed down and then a couple days later I started spotting dark red/brown and then the cramping got a bit worse as if my period was about to start and I finally bled 2 days ago, but I only bled for not even an entire day. My cramps have stopped completely and when I check for blood all I see is the remnants of it. I'm going to call the Gyno because i've never ever had this happen and worried it could be an ecotopic pg or maybe a miscarriage or my hormones are just whacked out causing me to only have a period for half a day.

What do you ladies think, because I'm more than worried at this point.

Did you call the gyn? It's really hard to know as it could be just about anything :-/

Sounds like you had a nasty bout of poor digestion. Could you be dairy or gluten sensitive?

I had an IUD for years without any discomfort or problems. I can't think of any way that a non hormonal IUD would cause the breast tenderness or other problems. Look at diet and hormone levels.
