I'm posting here out of desperation.
I had my daughter at 17, and previous to that never had any health problems. After my pregnancy I started Depo Provera and stayed on it for 2 years with little result, I had break through bleeding for every time I would work out, have sex, of stay up too late.
Since then I switched to seasonale (seasonique in the United States) and occassionaly had break through bleeding, but nothing too severe; unfortunately my seasonale was not covered by my insurance, and I have been unable to afford it in the past few months - I switched to the minovral (generic) and it was alright, but I did have unexpected bleeding during sex.
NOW I'm on the generic version of omniveral (portia) and my symptoms are 50 x worse than before. I have intense pains during sex, constant break through bleeding, bad moods, and back pain!
My doctor can not figure it out! I already have a clinical diagnosis for HSV, but i do not see that affecting me to this level. I'm freaked out and scared! I woke up this morning to intense break through bleeding that seemed to be triggered by nothing.....
Any ideas? Myself and my doctor have run out of answers!

Lots of people have to go through several pills to find one that works and many find they can only take 1 specific pill out of the dozens out there. It's not uncommon.

Seasonale and seasonique are actually 2 different things. Seasonique does not have inactive pills. Instead the week you would get your period you are still taking a very low dose of estrogen. It helps with problems like breakthrough bleeding, heavy periods, and acne during your period. Reason I insisted on it specifically.

Minovral contains less estrogen than the others. I could not find omniveral so I do not know how it compares. I've found I have to take pills with at least .03mg estrogen to avoid break through bleeding. I also can't take pills which have a different dose of hormones every week. Usually I accomplished that with yasmin but I'm now taking seasonique with only occasionally spotting. The spotting has a very high chance of going away by your 2nd pack of seasonique or seasonale. My doctor has a book with a chart that lists them by amount of estrogen and you can find some charts online that compare them.

Really all you can do is trial and error. Unless it's really driving you nuts it's best to give each pill 2-3months to see if the breakthrough bleeding will end. If there is severe bleeding and pain it's time to stop that pill and move on. When I was on lybrel I would push out cupfuls of blood after sex everytime.
