I want to be permanently sterilized. My Dr recommended Essure. After reading the big huge thread here, I am not getting it.

I was reading about the copper IUD. I am prone to yeast infections and BV, so I am scared of that. It isn't permanent anyway. I have been on the pill for over 14 years. I have had NO problems, but I don't want 20 more years of putting hormones in my body. Plus, my husband and I plan to travel a lot and we want a method that we don't have to worry about or think about or even do anything.

What are my options? Now I am just totally scared!

If you want no inserted device, and is permanent or relatively so, your only other option that is on the much more reliable side is either our husband getting a vasectomy or you getting a tubal. Everything comes with risks and side effects no matter what and there is absolutely no way to predict which side effects or when they will appear.

My husband has no children of his own, so I will not ask him to get a vasectomy. I am thinking of going for the tubal, but unsure if my Dr will give the necessary referral since he seems to really want to push the Essure.

I am just asking for experiences, especially with the tubal.

Some Dr's like to push for Essure because they may get kick backs for recommending it. IMO, there were too many cases of people getting pregnant 3, 4, 5 years down the road for my comfort.

I've had a tubal, would do it again and would recommend it. Haven't had any issues, not one. I don't have to worry about anything failing, whether it be BC or Essure. The best part, I don't have to deal with anymore hormones. Sure, it is a little more invasive, but I was still back to work the next day.

However, you need to do what you feel comfortable with. Everyone will have pros and cons to whatever decision you make, the bottom line is you have to feel comfortable with it. Do plenty of research on all options you are entertaining.
