Default Getting pregnant after birth control

I was on the birth control pill for 3 yrs and went off of it 1 month ago. I am going into my second month without it. I had a period my first month without it, a short period lasting about 3 days. My best friend was telling me that she tried to get pregnant for 2 yrs after she went off the pill and she ended up using fertility drugs. I feel like I'm just hearing all these horror stories about trying to get pregnant after being on the pill. Does anyone have any positive feedback for me? Is it that difficult for every woman to get pregnant after being on the pill? I have also read that many women are infertile for 1-2 months after getting off the pill. I am regretting every going on the birth control pill.
    Please respond with good feedback!

It does take a few months for your body to get on a regular cycle again after the pill but the time period is usually shorter than if you had been on a shot. To get pregnant your body needs to be able to create your natural hormones again that have been replaced by the pill for so many years. Some women are used to 3 day periods but a 5-7 day period shows that a healthy/sufficient stratum functionalis (lining of the uterus that cushions the embryo and is sloughed off during menstruation) is being formed monthly in anticipation of a baby

    Unhappy

This is a pretty big concern of mine too. I was on the pill for nearly 8 years, off of it (since I wasn't in a relationship with a man anymore) for 3 years and I just started it again year ago... now I worry that, when my boyfriend and I do get married, I may have trouble getting pregnant.

Birth control pills will not affect future fertility. However, it may take 2-3 months longer to get pregnant than if a you did not take the pills.

Here is some information about BCP risks and benefits

    Default My experience

I got pregnant 4 times within the first month of being off the pill. My doctor said I must be particularly fertile compared to most women. So, for me, I can pretty much plan to get pregnant as soon as I stop taking it. Maybe you are like that too!

This may be s stupid question, but out of curiosity, how did you know you got pregnant on 4 separate occasion in 1 month? How does that work? Did you go one week, get pregnant, terminate it, have sex immediately after that, get immediately pregnant again, repeat? If so, you ARE the most fertile woman on the planet! haha

    Exclamation

I don't know her, but it sounds to me that maybe she has 4 children, that this occurred four DIFFERENT times.

But an answer to the question:

I was on BC for 11 years. Stopped taking my pills, had a period immediately. The next month, I never had my period, so I took a test and after a false negative I ended having a blood test. Lo and Behold, I was pregnant. I got pregnant 2 1/2 weeks after being on BC for 11 years. The nurse told me that my system hadn't had time to reset itself and form a cycle and so it was an extremely fertile time for my body. Supposedly, if you don't get pregnant within like 3 months of stopping the pill, that is when it could take a long time because your body begins it's own cycle.

    Good Luck!

    Wink WHAT???

OK, I'm pretty surprised that it seems like some people are commenting on this woman's story without ACTUALLY reading it! what she's saying is the in 4 different times of her life when she was taking pills and then got off she got pregnant within a month. By the way, I know it is possible to get pregnant soon after getting off the pill because I know of a few people who have only missed their pills for a couple of days and have gotten pregnant. Like everyone else has been saying it really depends on you, it depends on your body.

    Default my current personal experience

I got off the pill after being on it consistently for 4 years the beginning of September 2009, on Nov. 2, 2009, my husband and I discovered we were pregnant. I had a normal period at the end of September and didn't have one in October which prompted us to take a pregnancy test. The only problem that I have had so far is that my first blood test showed that I had low progesterone levels. It is probably a result of my getting pregnant so soon after getting off the pill. However, they gave me progesterone suppositories to raise my levels and should solve any problems that I am currently experiencing. Don't let a few people's struggles to get pregnant scare you away from the pill. For just as many women, getting pregnant after the pill is easy. Just remember, no two women are the same even if they are twins. Good luck!!
