Estrogen in BC = no orgasm

For me anyway. I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with Birth Control. I will probably never go back on a pill again. First of all it made me VERY moody, no sex drive, when we did have sex it hurt and burned (we always used plenty of lube), and I never had an orgasm. My husband and I were married almost 3 years before I started having orgasms during intercourse. I had gone off the bc pill because I was tired of the way it made me feel and whithin a week of stopping I started having orgasms.
After thinking about for a few months I started researching the hormones in bc pills, the natural hormones your body produces and came to my own conclusion it was the extra estrogen being put in my body that made orgasms mute. Only now are they coming out with that side effect. I feel good that I took things into my own hands and figued things out. But Im mad that I dont have all the education and Phd's that some have and they couldnt come up with that untill sever several years later. It created a lot of frustration in our marriage, neither of us blamed one another, but would blame ourselves for lack of satisfaction. I really felt like something was wrong with me, barely felt like a real woman. Needless to say we both hate hormonal birth control. Of course not saying marriage is all about sex but it def. plays a good sized role. LOL
Anyone had this experience or similar?? This is something that really interests me!

I haven't had that tingly feeling down there since I went to college and got on the birth control pill in 1998. I can still acheive orgasm, through A LOT of stimulation of the clitoris only. I cannot orgasm vaginally at all, doesn't happen, EVER. It is a major downside of the pill, but for me there is no other alternative. I am able to conceive a child, but my body is unable to carry the child to term, so I must use a birth control method to assure a pregnancy doesn't occur. I have tried patches, shots, every pill because I refuse to have a permanent procedure at my age. It is a struggle and I think its something they should be trying to fix.

(For the longest time, I joked that the only reason the birth control pill is effective is because you simply don't feel like having sex anymore, it has nothing to do with stopping an egg!)

I share your displeasure with hormonal birth control. I've been off of it for over a year now. I chart my cycles every month which means I know exactly when I ovulate, exactly when I will start my period, and when I'm highly fertile and not fertile. It's a great empowering feeling. I don't like condoms.........but I'm willing to deal with them to avoid the bad side effects from hormonal BC. Get "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. It will teach you just about everything you'd ever need to know about staying off hormonal BC.

Unfortunately it is listed in the annoying instruction booklet in fine print with the words "side effects may include:....increased or decreased sex drive". That basically covers everything to do with arousal, orgasms, desire, lubrication etc. Doctors will say "side effects may include..." if you ask. The problem is that there is absolutely no way to predict who will and will not have an undesired side effect, when it may come, or for how long it would last. Zero prediction whatsoever. The other thing is the side effects are rare, going on a blog supporting stories of unfortunate events means they are a group and not the whole population. So one woman may have an unfortunate side effect and 10,000 other women on the same pill may experience nothing. I am extremely pro-drug and very educated but I do know side effects do not discriminate and I did have to changed from Tri Cyclen to Alesse because I was not feeling very sexual and the bloating was bad. One pill may be horrible but another can be just fine. All the pills contain a different type of estrogen-like compound (it is not actual estrogen it is a compound that is made to fit into the same receptor as estrogen thereby making it a fake replacement and named a 'estrogen-like' compound).

Im very aware that they mention the side effect of lack of sexual drive. Ive asked a number of doctors no one ever mentioned anything about orgasms. It should be stated as a possible side effect not left to be assumed that its included in a vague phrase such as " :....increased or decreased sex drive."
Estrogen or estrogen like compound, doesnt matter. Still does the same thing. There are so many holistic approches that are much safer, and sometimes work better than drugs. IMO id say at LEAST 50% of the pharmiceutical world is based on greed and not the desire to help people.
Like I said, thats just my opinion and everyone is entitled to theirs!!
