Question Is this normal with going off Birth Control?

Hi, I was on Alesse for about 8 months, this was to try and stop extremely painful cramps. I got off of it last month, due to it was causing me to break out all over my body. I've been off the pill since Mid- March, and on the pill my cycle is usually 28 days exactly. I should have gotten my period 5 days ago but I still haven't gotten it. I did have gooey globs of mucus though but there was no blood. I don't feel any pregnancy symptoms but I am sexually active (we always use condoms) and as far as I know we have had no problems.

Is it normal for a persons period to be late after getting off bith control?
Is there a strong possibility I could be pregnant? Should I take a test?

    Thanks!

I had no problems when I came off the pill, however, it is common that some women experience irregular cycles as it takes a while for your body to adjust back to having natural cycles. Youre only 5 days late, were you regular before you took Alesse?

If you always use condoms, it is highly unlikely that you are pregnant, but it wouldnt hurt to take a test just to reassure yourself. I know too many women that became pregnant in the gap where they initially stopped taking the pill because they incorrectly believed that they are still protected.

On a side note, you could ask your doctor to change your pill rather than stop it completely, especially if it helps relieve your stomach cramps. It can take a while to find a specific type that suits you and your needs.

Before I took Allese, I was somewhat normal. I got my period once a month, not always within 28 days. At most it would be 4 days late.
I'm going to take a test and see how that goes just in case. Hopefully it will give me some peace of mind. Thanks!

So I've taken the test: It came out negative.
Is there a good chance that this is correct?
I plan to take another in a week if I still don't get my period.
It's 10 days late now. I'm not sure what to do about it :S

(Sorry for the double post up there!)

I know this is an older post but did you experience any dizziness while on Allese? I just got off it, been off it about 4 days now and I have to tell you it was causing me to have some extreme dizziness a few times every month. Just wanted to ask.

With dizziness it is often explained by dehydration and diet. Also stress and general exhaustion. The pill can cause dizziness but it is often presented right when a woman starts a brand of pills for the first time because at first introduction will be when the side effects, if they are going to happen at all, show up. If dizziness happens later it is not always the pill as diet, stress, and dehydration could easily explain things.

It was in fact the pill. Im never dehydrated; I drink water all day long constantly. My doctor found that Allese had something in it my other pill I had before it did not and I never had dizziness with my other pill. Im not dizzy now that Ive been off it for 4 days. I had a friend who was on one pill for quite a while before she started getting side effects and had to be taken off.
