I have recently began using contraceptive pills, Cerazette brand, the one which should prevent any menstruation. I am in good health and have had no problems or irregular periods before. I have had intercourse twice during the two month period that I have began with these pills, and a day after both occurrences, I have started bleeding. The flow is light, then heavier, then for some days it is dark. I have to wear a tampon during this time. After about 10 days it stops. I haven't been able to find an answer to this problem on the internet and my doctor is on holiday. Should I stop taking the pills? Why is this happening? Will it continue to happen or does my body need to get used to the pills?

Most likely spotting. Do not stop taking the pill without consulting your doctor first. You have not been on the pill for very long so your body is not used to seeing it there just yet. It can take awhile, sometimes months, for a woman's cycle to become regulated to seeing the pill there no matter the brand.

Thank you for giving such a quick reply. I thought it was spotting, but it was heavy and constant. It also only starts once I have had intercourse. Could it be something to do with my cervix? I read about something called cervical erosion?

Call the doc's office and talk to the nurse practitioner or the doctor. You need to figure out what is going on specific to your body.

This it true. The nurse which prescribed me with these pills works in a health center in my highschool. However, they are closed during the holidays. I am worried that everyday that I take the pill I am damaging something and don't want to wait for an answer from them when they open next Wednesday. Should I stop taking it?
