Default Bleeding after 2 years on Mirena IUD?

I have had the Mirena IUD for two years now and I am really worried because all of the sudden I have started bleeding. It's not gushing but it's definitely heavier than spotting. Is this normal?
    Thanks,
    Midge

Go check with your OB-GYN ASAP. That kind of bleeding concerns me.

I am 21 years old. I had my son when I was 18 and got my mirena bc after I had him. I got the T shaped iud. At first I thought it was great then my doctor quit his practice. So I was in search of a new doctor, I found one about 2 hours away from where I live. Once we got there the doctor done sone probing around and couldn't find it or the strings. He made me come back a week later and they done an ultrasound. Once again they couldn't find it, they did find something that was white but couldn't make out what it was exactly. I hadn't had a doctor app for it since 2008 except when I went to the doctor I found that was 2 hours away. I keep having really bad cramps, my stomach is always bloated, I have started having really bad constipation and now it is starting to be painful to have sex. I am scared that it might be attached to my uterus or cervix and the doctor said it has a very slight chance of poking a hole through my uterus and could be floating around in my abdominal area. He also said that it might have fallen out but I'm sure that if it has fallen out I would have had a period by now. Another option the doctor gave me is to do an d&c to see if they can find it Everyonce in a while i have spotting. I don't know what to do any suggestions?

You keep posting this when you are only 1/2 right. Yes it is T shaped...HOWEVER.... it is still referred to as a "coil system" by most medical professionals.

This thread is compiled of many previously separate threads. It's possible that she was stating this on different ones that got put together later.
At any rate, we don't allow rudeness to other users on this forum. Hi, I have had my mirena in since february and I have had no problems til about 3 to 4 weeks ago. I first noticed something was causing me pain a few days after I had my pap done. I thought i was just having cramps or i was just experiancing major stress. Well, I finally went in to a different doctor last week and he informed me that I have Pelvic Inflamintory Disease andput me on anti-biotics. He also made sure that I understood that it wasn't caused by an std or anything like that. So, what the heck caused it? Was it the mirena? The pap? I have no clue what so ever! I just know that this sucks!

Anyone else ever have that happen?

I just wanted to share my Mirena experience in the past 5 days. I don't have any children, and this was my first IUD. I have a retroverted uterus, and even PAP smears are painful.

Last Wednesday, I had it inserted by my GYN. I used the misoprostol the morning of, because my appointment was in the late afternoon. It made me pretty sick with diarrhea, and I was super nervous. I had lots of cramps from about noon to my appointment at 4. A bit of bleeding, but not a lot. They said it was okay that I wasn't on my period yet. I also took some Naproxen and T3's the day of.

The insertion was the most painful thing I have ever experience in my life. The clamp on my cervix hurt, but the sound actually made me scream. I have a fairly high pain tolerance. I have three tattoos, and have had 8 piercings, including a "down there" piercing (no longer have it in). Anyways, my GYN stopped after the measurement and said we could stop the procedure if I wanted, but I knew if we did, I would NEVER do it again.

So we went ahead. If the sound was a 15 on a pain scale of 1-10, the Mirena insertion was about a 13. Anyways, I couldn't sit up after, and I could feel myself going into shock (I've been in shock twice before, so I know what it feels like). I layed on the table for a while shaking after the doctor left. I barely managed to get dressed and ran over to the bathroom, where I threw up for about 10 minutes, and layed on the cold tile floor. Stupidly, I drove myself there, and I was about 5 minutes away. I don't actually remember the drive home.

Anyways, since then, I have been in bed every single day, all day. I just opened up a salon, so this has created a huge impact on my business. I have a herniated disc, so luckily, I have stronger pain medication on hand as I said before. It barely took the edge off this pain.

Finally today, I just knew something was too wrong. I could feel the strings in there, but it hurt too bad to feel my actual cervix. I hobbled down the street to the doctors office, but they stop seeing walk-in patients at 4pm so they turned me away. I was super mad, so I got back to my house, crawled into my bathroom with some vinyl gloves, and was totally determined to get this stupid Mirena out.

I took a deep breath and felt around, and could feel the IUD sticking out of my cervix. So I took a few minutes to calm down and I grabbed the strings and pulled. It slid right out, and I felt the most amazing feeling of relief. My abdomen is still swollen and VERY sore and achy, as is the rest of my middle body. But that crippling sharp pain that had me in bed for five days is gone.

I wouldn't advocate taking it out yourself, obviously. But I'm so flippin relieved it's gone. I was so happy, I almost cried! Even my mom was happy! haha

So no more birth control for me. That was my last resort, so I've decided just to embrace my periods and make my man wrap it up. Oh well!

Let me start off by saying that I am relieved, because I thought I was going crazy. I have had my Mirena since; Aug 08 and I absolutely fell in love with it. I had no symptoms of any sort but over the past six months something has changed. I have been with my partner for a year and 1/2 and and over the last six months things have gotten weird. First I started to experience painful intercourse (like you would not believe), actually cramping down there that was so unbearable. Then every-time we would have sex I would experience bleeding (actual flowing), but then after I showered or sometimes the next day it just totally disappear. I am not one to have sex while on my cycle so I absolutely hate this and it is a total mood kill for me (not to mention I think my boyfriend is tired of it as well). At first I did not think it was because of my Mirena; since I've had it for over two years now and these are new symptoms. Just had my pap-smear and tested negative for all STDs to include HIV and HPV. I asked my Dr about it and her only response was it is sometimes common to bleed after sex. I'm almost 33 and I since my first time, I have never experienced such. I think that it's time to part ways with my Mirena because clearly it is no longer my friend.
