Thread: IBS and Birth Control

Hi Everyone-

I have been on 3 different types of birth control (Yaz, Yasmin, and Lo Loestrin Fe) all three have given me severe stomach issues. I have IBS and it seems that my sympotms get much worse the closer it gets to my period. Does anyone else feel this way? Is there a birth control that doesn't cause such stomach upset? I tried Lo Loestrin Fe for 2 months.. I HATED IT. Made my stomach bloat non-stop, only spotted on the first pack and didn't have a period at all on the second. That made me EXTREMELY paranoid about pregnancy. I took 2 tests about 2 weeks apart and both came back negative. So I'm back to Zarah, the generic form of Yasmin this month, and same stomach issues.. gas, bloating, abdominal pain, no appetite. Not to mention the mood swings and depression.

I'm really looking for a birth control option that doesn't have so many side effects. What has worked best for you? I'm tired of trying so many different pills!

i too have IBS & have the same side effects you are experiencing when i'm on the pill. i don't know if perhaps the artifical hormones play a role in this misery or if it is unrelated, but i feel your pain. the only birth control method i'm aware of that does not contain these hormones is the paraguard copper t iud. i am scheduled to get fitted for it within the next few weeks so i will have to keep in touch & let you know if it helps subside any of these symptoms! also, do you notice any aching in your joints around your period? my knees get so achey it wakes me up out of my sleep at times. it's awful . . .
