    Hi all,

Hoping someone might be able to help! Im 22 and have been taking Microgynon 30 since I was 16 years old. Up until a few months ago, I was fairly good at remembering to take it on time and there were never any major problems with it, however for some reason, Ive been messing it up loads lately by missing it for 2-3 days here and there! Its been confusing my body to say the least, so I thought it was best to come off it and to try and find something else.

I stopped half way through a pack, I had missed a couple of pills by accident again so I started a withdrawal bleed about a week and a half ago. Once I started this accidental 'period', I decided to just stop taking the pill from then on. I stopped bleeding about 5 days ago and the last pill i took was probably about 2 weeks ago now. Last night I started getting mild cramps and had a bit of spotting, today I am fine but my tummy is feeling a little bit tender - should I expect to be having a natural period within a few days now?? Or are these just side affects from not taking the pill?

I know I should really go to the doctors to discuss this but just wanted to hear about other people's experiences of coming off of the pill. Im just a bit confused as to when I should expect to have a proper period. I am currently in a long term relationship and we have agreed to use condoms until I find another method of contraception to use!

Once you stop birth control it is going to take awhile to reset your body. Do not be surprised if it takes several months. The pill is not out of your system the day you stop taking them, there will be remnants in your body for several months. You will likely spot a lot, you will likely not have a "proper" scheduled period for awhile. The only thing a doctor is going to say when someone comes off the pill is that spotting will occur, there is no way to predict how long that will occur, and it could take a few months to get everything back to normal.
