Hi, I've been on yasmin for about 6 months. For the past 3, I've been feeling increasingly depressed, panicky, I've been crying a lot for no apparent reason, and just generally not feeling like myself.
I can't think of any other possible cause for all these symptoms other than the pill: nothing has changed in my life, everything is actually pretty great other than the fact that I feel like I'm going insane. So after I started having full-blown anxiety attacks this week, I decided to finally stop taking the pill.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience, and if so, did switching to another pill help? How long after stopping/switching did you start feeling better? (I stopped two days ago)
Any advice, comments would be very much appreciated!
Birth control pills are notorious for causing depression/anxiety. Not all women experience these side effects of course, but many do. Switching to another brand might help, but often if one type of pill causes you a certain side effect then they are ALL likely to do so. No harm in giving it a shot, though. Maybe go for something with a lower dose like ortho tri-cyclin lo for instance. Or maybe look into non-hormonal options like condoms, femcap, etc.
