Question Side effects while using YAZ

    Hey ladies...

Just wanted to dip my toe in the water so to speak and find out if anyone else out there is experiencing or has experienced similar side effects to me.

I am a 28 year old woman happily engaged to a wonderful man.

The reason I am posting in this forum is because I have recently been trying YAZ to regulate my periods due to a recent diagnosis of PCOS. My Gyno wanted to try me on this particular BCP as I informed him I had tried other BCP's and had severe nausea and vomiting. He informed me that YAZ had a lower Oestrogen dose in it and asked me to try it to test whether I could tolerate the lower levels. The day he prescribed it to me... I also asked him for something to control the nausea in the event I did get it.

Well... 2 months into trying YAZ.... I am glad I asked for something to control nausea as I have had it worse than ever... experiencing it nearly every day and have been needing to vomit before the nausea subsides. I was prescribed maxolon to control the nausea so have been taking that but only when I feel a real need for it... been trying other things before resorting to the maxolon. Sucking mints is a great way to curb the nausea temporarily.

Anyway, besides the nausea and vomiting... I have been getting headaches, feeling more and more tired.

The most concerning symptom other than the nausea is an itchy rash forming on my chest, in my underarms and down the side of my torso.... there seems to be some also forming on the backs of my hands and behind my knees.

Now... do I stop the pill today... only 4 active pills in my current pack?! Or, do I carry on until I have finished the pack and then stop completely?! I just want to feel myself again!!! I may have to make that executive decision myself but just wanted to put it out there and ask you ladies!!

    Yours frustratingly,

    Quietaussie

Hey there fellow Aussie! I don't think it really matters if u stop hey. I'm taking Yasmin even tho I was supposed to start taking yaz (a mix up on my part I lost my packet and took a friends packet of yaz she didn't want thinking it was the same pill) so it doesn't matter if u stop cold turkey in my opinion, just use condoms until u figure out what bc u want to use. It's not like an anti-depressant where u get sick from coming down off it. More than likely u will just have an unusual or early period. It won't harm u long term or short term. I've been experiencing slight nausea of late but I'm not sure if it's the yasmine.

Sucks to be female sometimes, I think alot of drs seem to think yaz is like a revolution in BC for curing so many things but it is so hit and miss. Everyone is different

If I were u I'd stop the pills. I've done it before on loette. No harm in it if it's making u sick. Maybe call the pharmacy first too, I'm sure they'll tell u it's safe to do so. Goodluck!!

Thank you Elanor-Jane... Great you replied so quickly! I was going to stop it as I am getting so frustrated so thanks for confirming my decision for me. I am seeing a GP tomorrow and I will check with him before I do stop so hopefully I will have one more day and then won't have to take it ever again!!

I am also going to go back and see my Gyno and just relay my concerns to him and discuss the next option for me to take.

Again thanks for your reply... Which aussie state are you in?!

I live in wagga wagga NSW
I'm actually considering going to an endocrinologist again for all my odds and ends. Sometimes I think gynos can be as basic as a gp with some of the advice I've heard.
Let us know how u go xx

Yuck...get off of them asap. Listen to your body. When it says, "I HATE THIS, PLEASE STOP!", listen to it.

Many women have PCOS and do not take hormonal BC.

If your primary concern is pregnancy protection, consider something like a diaphragm and condoms. I went off hormonal BC after ten years on it, and constant side effects... and I've never regretted it even once.

Hello Beautiful Disaster... I am officially off the things!! The GP I saw today has confirmed it is ok to stop so near to the end of the pack.

Yes I was diagnosed with PCOS and I am aware that many women with the same condition are not on hormonal BC... My primary reason was not actually pregnancy protection... although I am sexually active but that is not the point here. I am trying all sorts of ways to ensure I have a regular bleed as I have very irregular periods otherwise.

I have been told that going for several months to even a year without a bleed is not healthy and has the potential to lead to uterine cancer. Therefore if I can find a method of making sure I have a regular bleed that my body appears to be comfortable with, that would be better than potentially not having a bleed for ages.

Anyway, the GP today has suggested I try Loette... I will see how I go with that. At least NO MORE YAZ... YAY!!!

Thanks for the chat ladies!! I will let you know how everything goes! :-)

Good luck with the loette, it gave me cronic thrush after 3+ years but worked great for a long time. Don't let my comment put u off it! That was just my exp and it was just at the end of using it for a long time. My system didn't like it after a while I guess.

Funnily enough I'm going to try yaz this month, Yasmin has made me very very depressed and anxious plus bad headaches. I didn't really think it was the pill cos I'm a sufferer of depression already but my bf said I had been worse the last 4 weeks and he's right, I've been a nut case!!!!

Thanks for the heads up about loette Elanor-Jane. I will give it a go but will watch myself for any changes.

Good luck with the YAZ... it didn't work for me obviously but it doesn't mean it won't work for you. Your body may be completely comfortable with it as we all react differently to the same thing.

Funny you should say your BF noticed a change in your mood... my fiance said the same thing about my mood, he kept mentioning how grumpy I was while using YAZ. I am usually very grumpy and short tempered around period time but it is unusual for me to be snappy all month. He needs to watch what he says and does for the next few days though as I will be having a bleed before trying the new pill. :-P

Anyway... again, thanks for the chat... Take Care and watch this space for news I guess! :-)
