Default The Pill- Makes me crazy

So I was on hormonal birth control for about 6 months and it made me VERY mood swingy and cranky and depressed. I only tried 2 different kinds (Yaz and Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo) and it seemed the Yaz made me crabbier than the Ortho, but both did.

I am getting married in 11 months and would like to get on a form of birth control (other than condoms) by the time I'm married, because we no longer will want a barrier. Are there any pills out there that WON'T make me "crazy?" I am too scared to try it again, because I don't want the swings and fights between my fiance and I to start up again. Is it just a matter of trying different ones? Or do you think they will all have that effect on me? I do already have depression, so obviously it doesn't help having that already.

I was looking into the Paragard Copper IUD, but I am not sure if it would be worth getting if I would only have it in for 2 years. Suggestions??? Anyone been through this and conquered it?

Check out the price on the IUD, divided over two years, before you decide whether it's worth it. Even with a low-cost pill, you may find it's much cheaper over time for the IUD! I did, though I didn't end up getting it.

Yaz made me crazy personally, but Ortho Tri Cyclen (and its Lo variant) didn't. You might try a monophasic with different hormones than Yaz, if you keep using pills.

There's also charting and using basal body temperature for "natural family planning," which is actually QUITE effective! But others can tell you more about that.

I guess the reason I think it might not be worth getting IUD is because if we decide to have kids in 2 years, and I do have a baby, am I going to keep getting it put in over and over inbetween children (Not sure how many we want yet)

Birth control never agreed with me, I tried maybe 4 different kinds over the past 5 years and they all made my body freak out. Emotions off the charts with all, horrible sick tummy with most, and the the dreaded ... Lack of sex drive, and yeast infections while on the ring.
I've been thinking hard about what to do after I deliver for plans of birth control and I have decided to try natural family planning.

I have only tried so many different types, but I think if you have problems with multiples... Your always going to have problems.
I was looking into the iud 2 years ago and my doctor said its not for anyone that hasn't already had children, and didn't want anymore for 4 years. I don't know how true his information was, but I decided not to bc I wanted to have kids within the next 2 or so years.

All you can do is try different brands. All women will react differently so it is impossible to say which brand will not "make you crazy". One pill may make you moody and another can have absolutely no negative side effects, it is all trial and error. Not all are going to react the same in your body and because you have only been on two different ones there are still countless numbers you can try. The pill is much easier in the long run because it does not involve surgery, costs very little, and you can come off of it with ease without having to endure a surgery procedure just to have it stopped.

I think the coming off the pill was the worst part of it. It gave me the worst anxiety and depression of my entire life. I ended up temporarily going on a anti-depressant, and am off it now, but I never want to feel like that again. I geuss that's why I am so nervous about it. Is it even going to be worth trying to find that right one?

I'm sorry you're in this situation right now.

My body never agreed with artificial contraception. It affected my heart. I resorted to natural methods and successfully spaced kids accordingly. It requires charting of your basal body temperature, which your doctor can give you a better explanation. I also used calendar/rhythm method and I literally circled the days I am ready to make love, crossed out the ones when I am fertile. I had it posted in our bedroom and it served like a communication board. When I had 2 kids and we decided we're done with it, I had a bilateral tubal ligation. Now, I am free anytime, any day. Do you think you can try this route?

Once I am married, yes I think that would work...now, I don't think I'd risk it just in case I would mess up, lol

Be very careful with hormonal contraceptives. In my experience if you have had an adverse reaction to one kind the rest may be simiar. I had almost the same problem, depression, mood swings at break neck speeds, but also throw in being physically ill and vomiting every day for four months until I figured out it was the pill making me sick. If I were you I would kick ALL hormonal contraceptives, I am going to because I am petrified I will go back to how I was if I go back on the pill and it may cause my relationship to break down on account of being a mniac. The IUD is a good option and worth it for two years, but sadly the heavy bleeding is a downfall. Talk to your fiance, and make sure you both understnd the pros and cons of each, just make sure you make an educated decision, and whatever you do DO NOT LET THE DOCTORS TALK YOU BACK INTO HORMONAL CONTRACEPTIVES. I'm warning you, everytime I go to tlk to them about a new non-hormonal contraceptive they somehow talk we into getting a hormonal contrceptive and the same thing happens all over again.

KateA, I am also fearful that I will go back to those depressing ways. It was VERY hard on my relationship and never want to risk it again. I love him too much to do that, I just wish there were easier options DARN REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM! lol
