Unhappy birth control question - should i have waited?

i have been on seasonique and amethia (generic for seasonique) for 6 months now and have taken my pills as directed every day, never missed a pill. the "worst" i have done is take a pill an hour and a half late, ONCE. this sunday i just recently switched to mona nessa, and the doctor (at planned parenthood) said to not have sex for at least 7-10 days after switching to this new pill to give it time to get into my system.
well, last night i had spontaneous, in the moment sex but it was less than 5 minutes long and my boyfriend didn't ejaculate inside of me... i have never once throughout our relationship while on birth control let him do that, because i'm paranoid. is there a chance that i could be pregnant because i didn't wait 7-10 days? what are the chances? i waited 4 days. but since i have been on the pill already for 6 months, shouldn't i be fine? i'm not going to do this again!!!

No birth control is 100% effective but the chances of you being pregnant are very slim. Even if you switched brands you still had the first brand inside your body before the switch, that alone if taken within the 3 hour window as directed without missing any give you about a 98-99.xx% effectiveness. Switching will take time for your body to get used to seeing but the initial protection from the first brand of pills still makes it so that pregnancy chances are slim. As long as you take the birth control pills within the 3 hour window as directed you will be fine. As for spontaneous sex, unfortunately you will need to find a way to monitor those feelings if you are uncertain of protection at a particular time. However spontaneous sex is fine once your body is used to seeing the pill in you.

thank you for the reply and for easing my mind. this is the first time this has happened, and i don't intend for it to happen again if i switch prescriptions again in the future. i really hope that everything will be fine, and i will definitely learn from this.

also, if you could answer this, is it really true that pill stays in your system for awhile? because i'm pretty sure that my doctor overexaggerated and said that once you stop taking them, within 24 hours, they are completely out of your system. how is that right?

The regular dose is nearly gone within 24 hours, this is why you must keep taking them at that regular time every 24 hours in order to 're-boost' the dosage present in your body. However, the chemicals created from the main ingredients of the pill itself called metabolites will be present in your body for a month or more. These metabolites will not cause you any harm but they are the reason that some women experience difficulty becoming regular with their periods once they stop taking birth control.
