Thread: Copper IUD an no period for 5 months...is this normal

Hi, I have had a copper IUD for about a year now, and I havent gotten my period since september (about 5 months ago). I have heard you stopped getting your period if you had a HORMONAL IUD, but have never heard this was the case for the copper.

I asked a nurse at a checkup. She says this happens. I re-ask a PA at the checkup. She says this only happens if you have the hormonal IUD and offered no further explanation. I got a pap smear and ultrasound...everything looked normal and im not pregnant.

Does anyone have any experience or advice about this?

I have the copper IUD and when it was first insterted the periods came heavier than ever. Everyone is different but they say it's not hormonal but I believe it is. I am going to get it removed next week Wed. It's not for me, I have mood swings, loss of sex drive, weight gain, etc. I am no longer taking birth control.
