I also posted this in the menstral cycle forum, because I didn't know which one it applied to the most. I hope this is OK, I am really desperate for some advice:

Last month, I was off of birth control pills, (I cant remember what kind, but probably something general, because I am getting them free from the country health dept.) to ease migraines. I had my period normally after this month totally free of BC, though it was a day or two shorter then usual.

This month, I got back on birth control, around two weeks ago. I am a college student, and get birth control free from the campus clinic/health dept. I told them about my migraines that the doctor presumed were caused by the birth control pills, and they gave me a new, lower dose called ortho-tri-cyclen. The third day on these new pills, after a month of being pill-free, I started spotting a little bit of blood. My periods have been regular my whole life and I have never before spotted in between periods. I had three migraines in two days when I first started this new pill, but now have not had another one, and I guess that they were just caused by the new pill. I was told by friends, my mother, and sources online that spotting between periods, especially after changing/starting anew birth control is normal. I have had no cramping or abdominal pain. The bleeding would slow, the even stop for a day, and I would put off calling the doctor. But now its started yet again, and today was as much a light to moderate normal period. I have one more week of the birth control pills to take. I have kept on taking them normally at the same time every day. I have not missed one.

I have been bleeding for a total of nine days now, and this is way too long I know. I am going to call the women's clinic near me tomorrow, and talk to them. What should I probably be doing? Should I stop this kind of birth control? Should I change again?

I have been considering getting off hormonal birth control alltogether lately, as the migraines are starting to get really annoying and painful and frequent, and cutting into my school work and my job.

Plus I have been thinking about the negative influences sending the hormones through the urine and into the H20 supply has on us all. It is really hard on the environment.

I am really worried about this bleeding. I am worried about my cycle being all messed up now, and dont know what to do.

Ive never been on the Pill before so i donno from personal experience or anything, I do know that when you start a new BC it can take up to 3 months for your periods to become regular so your bleeding could be just your body adjusting to the change in BC, As long as your not bleeding so much that your soaking a pad or tampon within one hour i dont think you should be concerned just yet, Im not saying that this Pill is for you it might be that your body is rejecting this specific Pill because not all BC works for everyone, The only way to know for sure if the bleeding is just your body adjusting to the Pill is to wait it out 3 months an see how it is then if its the same change to a different pill or BC, I hope ive helped some.

Oh my, you are describing me a few years ago! I had the same problem! I had to go on a bc pill that had a much lower estrogen level. I tried 3 different pills until I got it right and ended up on Yaz. Yaz worked wonderful for me and I felt normal after being on it for a week. Everyone is different though. The migraines are awful and you cannot deal with those monthly! Ortho is way to high for someone with migraines. See if your dr can change you to something lower. I wouldn't worry about the bleeding. Anytime your body is adjusting to a new pill or going on/off the pill you will bleed. It's just your body adjusting. Just buy a bulk box of tampons and deal with it. It'll be a small price to pay to not have to deal with the migraines. Good luck, I feel for you!
