over 40 and searching for BCP
I have attempted to find some research online regarding BCP and over 40!! In a nut shell - I was on Orthocept for yrs but the company has recently stopped producing it which has forced me to change pills.
I have now been on Alesse for a number of months - I believe it has less estrogen - the dr selected the lesser estrogen because of my age. I am struggling. A trend has definitely developed where I am 'out-of-sorts' every 4 weeks. I am totally out of control for an entire day. I hate this feeling.
Before I go back to the dr to request a change in pill .. I would like to go with some evidence. My question is --- where is the evidence that the health risks increase at 40 years of age? And how much of an increase is there really?? Has anyone ever found anything online or other??

I'm not expert but I've heard that it doesn't necessarily have to do with your age. It's more the amount of time that you have been on the pill. For example, have you been on the pill since your 20s? Then that may put you more at since you've been on the pill for 20 years. Now, at risk for what, I'm unsure.
There are other low estrogen pills out there though. I was on alesse and became very emotional but switched to yaz and was fine. You may just need to try something else for a month and see if things work out better since everyone's body is different.
