Is it safe to only take birth control during your period? Obviously, that's not what it's made for, but I'm giving Yaz another shot and here I am, about a week into it after following every direction, taking the pill at the same time every day, starting taking pills on the 1st day of my period, and now that my period's over I feel a yeast infection coming on; I'm really dry and a little itchy downstairs.
BUT I have been having the worst cramps; every single muscle attached to my pelvis contracts awfully for the days before and during. And I have PMS that I'm beginning to think is PMDD.
The next day after I started taking the pills, I didn't have to take a single painkiller, but I can't stand this vaginal dryness. My sex drive could stand a cool-down, but I would like to be able to function sexually when the option is open to me.
Have any of you ladies heard of anything like this? If I could just use it as a pain-avoidance mechanism, I'd love it.

I was on Yaz for a while and got off it a few months ago. Couldnt deal with the leg pain and crazy mood swings it gave me. But my dr. put me back on it 2 wks. ago and gave me some meds for what he tells me is RLS, and not caused by the pill. I just started me 2nd wk. of it. I, too, had really bad cramps durring my period, and some dryness issuse. Last time on yaz, I had a panic attack, so the minute I notice any of those symptoms, I'm going to be done with the pill for good. Yaz is suposed to help with PMDD, and thats why I'm on it, but I wish I could find a better pill. On the flip side, it has cleared up my skin from breakouts, but thats not enough to keep me on it. I have never heard of taking the pill only durring your period. I would ask your dr. about that and the infections. Let us know if you find out anything. I would just take it durring my period if I could, too.
Yaz is the popular new pill that does everything except the dinner dishes ... or so they say. My doctor, when she prescribed it to me, said that she gives it to all girls my age who want to have BC.
There's a history of Panic Anxiety Disorder in my family, and if I have a panic attack on Yaz, I"m throwing it away and never looking back. I won't be seeing my doctor again until fall and time for my annual exam, but I think I might ask about a low-hormone alternative. My boobs hurt when I woke up this morning and they have only done that as a PMS symptom, but haven't for a few months.
Ugh.
maybe i haven't taken it long enough, or maybe i just can't compare it to other pills (because this is the first one i've tried) but i just finished my first pack of yaz pills and haven't had all these crazy symptoms you ladies mention.... (also started day one of period/24 hrs of it starting) a week into it i had a little nausea.. but my mood swings seemed to improve quite a bit. (husband called them "happy pills" the first couple weeks) haven't noticed it helping in reducing pms symptoms (like acne, cramps, etc) but maybe i need to take it for a few months before that kicks in and my body gets used to it...
downsides to yaz- with insurance its still $50 a month for me.. because it's a "brand name" and still "new and popular"...
does anyone know a non brand comparable?
also wondering, is there anyone out there who has to take advil (or any form of ibuprophane) regularly or semi? i have knee injuries and when they give me trouble my Dr. has told me to take anti-inflamatories to help with my pain, but its not recommended- for potassium levels- to take frequently while taking YAZ... any comments or feedback relating to that?! i called and asked my gyno about it, she said to just not take it too much, too often... and avoid- bananas....
Well never heard of it here....
I went on something called "Tryphasil" don't know how it is spelt as here we can have the cheaper brand version with is "Trifeme"...
I had severe cramps, that left me rolling on the pavements of school yards, so that was recommended to me...
No side effects what so ever and stopped the cramps to a minimum during my period...
Sometimes i wonder if "wonder drugs" are well just..........
I tried a "wonder drug" for stopping smoking gee, talk about moody, y, shaking, all sorts.... Needless to say, stopped it real quick....
Best of luck then with finding the one that suits....

hello, i have been taking yaz as well its barely going to be a month and i havent had any wierd symtoms either. this is the first bc i have ever taken so i dont really know what to expect. as for the price...my insurance doesnt cover it either because of the brand name so i pay $50 a month too. if you go onto the yz website you can get a coupon and it will $10 less but you can only use it once. the only other pill that is similar to yaz is yasmin because the both contain drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol. i was told that there is no other similar pill that is cheaper. hope i helped. oh and one other thing, have you gained any weight or anyhthing like that? i heard yaz causes weight gain!
hey,....well im on a dual contraceptive pill called Dianette....i have never experienced any real probs and have been on it for 2 and half years!
i had to go on the pill due to irregular and heavy periods, being anemic and also for my skin.
when i started the pill i experience unusual pains...from breast pains to having swore legs.(Though my sister whom was on the same pill never experienced these...varies from one to another) the effects of the pill varies due to the increase of hormone levels and with myself it took probally 3 months for my body to adjust.
it seems the yas is very expensive..?i live in ireland and it costs approx 12euros every month!...
The pill is known to cause dryness of the skin due to an increase in oestogen levels(if an oestrogen pill)...which maybe the reason in why there is an irritation..??
One of my friends was on Yaz then went to nuva ring and is now on a different one because both of those were awful for her. She had anxiety issues and cramps and everything else you can think of.. I will ask her what she switched to because it sounds like you aren't happy with yours and I know she is a LOT better now.. I personally LOVE nuva ring. But I haven't ever had any problems with any kind of b/c fortunately.
I'm 21 years old and this is my first experience with birth control.
Life before YAZ and life after YAZ is like the difference night and day.
Before I started taking YAZ, I would have panic attacks on a daily basis starting a week before my period. I was very depressed, lethargic, and had a difficult time concentrating in class. In addition, my menstrual cramps were unbearable. I easily took up to 9 ibuprofen a day to manage the pain.
Since having started YAZ, I am much more calm and collected. Little things that would throw me into a rage no longer bother me. I am happy again. In addition, I think I took maybe 2 ibuprofen my whole period. I feel like my quality of life has improved substantially.
I highly encourage women who have not had success with YAZ to continue looking.
