I have been on the pill for about 8 years since right after my daughter was born. About a year ago I started noticing that right after my period, I would get lumps that hurt really bad in my right breast on the side by my underarm. My doctor said they are normal and they do come and go. Does anyone else have this problem? I am only 26 and am getting kinda scared about it. I need to be on something because my periods are so irregular and I cannot get pregnant. i had placenta accreta with my daughter 9 years ago and I am deathly afraid of getting pregnant again. What should I do?

Yes, it is normal for women to experience changes in their breasts throughout their cycles and from other various factors. Womens breasts tend to swell up around their period time. You may notice just a general swelling or certain areas that are a bit harder then others. They usually become a bit tender too.

Women can also develop fribrous tissue in their breasts as they age which is basicly tissue that is a bit harder and tougher then the rest of the breast tissue. Caffiene is a big contributer to fribrous tissue in the breasts. It is best to avoid caffiene if you are experiencing those symptoms.

Because you are having these changes in your tissue, it does make it more difficult to find abnormal tissue which could be cancerous. So you are more at risk and should be sure to get a regular breast exam every year to make sure you haven't missed anything during your own self-exams.
