    Hello all Birth Controllers...
I have been on the Depo Provera Shot for about 6 years now, without giving my body a break.
I was just wondering if any of you use the depo shot, and have had bad side effects from it? My one friend went into early menopause...and I dont want that to happen to me...
but I use the depo for period control...and thats it. Im actually still a virgin, but my periods, and cramps were wayy too bad to handle.

Is there something out there that I can go on to control my period, and cramps...?

did you just go onto the other birth control, or did you have to take a break??? Does it control your periods....does it give you mood swings?

I just switched from the depo to Lybrel. I gained about 15 pounds in the last year on depo and also have 'bacne' for the first time in my life. (Gross i know). You take lybrel all year, with out breaks for a period. I just switched last weekend, and i did not have to wait. I was due for a new shot and she just switched me and told me to start sunday.

I haven't been on it long enough to know about mood swings or cravings. but i know what you mean. with the depo i'ld go several days and just cry or yell!! I really couldn't control my eating habits either. I had never experienced that before since I've been an athlete all my life and always ate well. Hopefully Lybrel will work with fewer side effects and I'll be able to lose some of this nasty weight i've put on. good luck

    welll...
I went to the doctors today...and she told me that I had to WAIT until the shot is out of my system.
I found that I went insane on the shot...Like, eating a LOT, and horrible mood swings as well.
    And hot flashes from ....
so now Im waiting for the shot to wear off...and she said it could be up to a year!!!!

    Default i have a question

i have an almost 3 year old son and after he was born i went on the depo shot. i was only on it for about a year and 5 months. i had my last shot in mid feb of last year and i had got my first period, really since i had become pregnant with my 3 year old, this past march. so it was more than a year since my last shot. since my last period its been approx. 46 days. has anyone else had something similar happen? i took a pregnancy test, since i'm with a new guy, and it was negative.

i came on here to ask a similar question. I had the depo shot once, back in november. I haven't had a period since october 2007 and i know i'm not pregnant. Would one shot of depo have delayed my period for this long?

I got the shot june 3 & havent started my period this month. Im not sure if it's because of the shot?? I read that it would take up to a year to not have a period at all. Has everyone had weight gain? I needed to lose weight before the shot. From what Ive read, now I feel doomed! And Ive lost the little sex drive I did have. I've read some of you had continous periods? Omg, I dont know if I should even keep my appt for the 2nd shot. Has anyone had any GOOD reactions to depo??

The depo shot suppresses your period although you may spot every now and then) not sure if thats normal with the depo). SO sounds to me like you're normal. I know it lasts for 3 months but this is a long time dear. You should go see the doctor about this, especially if you only had it once.

Sometimes it delays your period right away. This happened to me when I went on it several years ago, right after my first shot I didn't get my period! But when in doubt about this stuff, you can call your doctor.

I think the Depo has a hotline you can call....I'll look it up for you.
