Question Should I try Nuvaring? Or get rid of BC?

About a year ago I started going on The Pill when my boyfriend and I started having sex, and for some reason I had a 2 week period (which has never happened to me before). I'm guessing that the "stress" of being sexually active again knocked my period out of whack, or something. Anyway, I went to a gyn and he prescribed me Yaz, to "cycle" me. I took that for about 6 months and found that I didn't like it - it gave me cold sores around my mouth and made my libido go to 0. I do like what it did for my skin, though, and made my cramps less severe. I asked him to prescribe me something else to try - and he put me on Sprintec (A generic form of Ortho Cyclen, I believe). With Sprintec I haven't noticed any mouth sores but the non-existant libido is still there (I'm not attracted to my boyfriend at all anymore). We haven't had sex in months because of it. I've also been feeling depressed and disconnected. I went to another doctor and she suggested I try NuvaRing, since she said it had a lower dose of hormones since it didn't have to be absorbed systemically. I googled it and found a lot of people saying bad things about it (causing more blood clots that others, vaginal dryness/itchiness) and am unsure if I should try it. I am easily prone to soreness during/after sex and sometimes it can even be painful, so I'm concerned that NuvaRing would exacerbate these problems. I think I read that a couple people got infections from NuvaRing, too.

The main reason I'm taking BC is of course preventing pregnancy, but I also like having lighter periods with less pain as well as the clear skin. I like the idea of going off of HBC altogether, but I don't want to go back to the pimples and pain (waking me up in the middle of the night, having to take loads of advil). I would be happy to go back to condoms to prevent pregnancy if I could find other ways of shortening my period, making it less painful, and clearing up my skin, but so far I haven't been able to find any.

Does anyone have any advice? It would really be apprecited. I'm feeling really frustrated right now.

I've been using the NuvaRing for a few years now and haven't had any major problems. My boyfriend says he can feel it sometimes but it's not a big deal and it doesn't hurt. My periods are very regular, last about 5 days and I have little tiny cramps the day before I get my period but they're hardly ever bad enough to take advil. I don't experience any spotting like I have with other BC and I've always had a few pimples now and then so I don't think it causes acne. We don't use condoms and I haven't gotten pregnant. The only thing I'm worried about is that I have a low sex drive. I don't know for sure if it's from the Nuvaring because I've always had a low sex drive and I've tried other kinds of BC, (pills, patch, depo) even tried going off BC altogether and I don't notice a difference in my sex drive. I think I just naturally have low libido or something. I would recommend the NuvaRing. You keep it in for 3 weeks at a time. It's nice not to have to worry about taking a pill everyday. I think you should go for it.

Dido . NuvaRing is cool . I have some of the same issues you do with sex being uncomfortable and whatnot ... but I cant feel it ( basically , if you can use a tampon , you can use this ) . My Boyfriend can , but no complaints about it . Also if it does bother you ... just take it out , simple as that . You cant untake a pill , but this stuff is good. You shouldnt have too much of an issue with infections if you are careful about washing your hands when you put it in or take it out . Basic stuff .

And I also had the pill make my period longer and just basically . ( Ortho Tricyclin ) But with the NuvaRing my period is just one day a month . I havent had any problems with it . Also , it comes with nifty stickers for your calender so you can keep track of your weeks ( plus side is only someone who uses them with have any clue what they are for )

I don't know, yall. I'm very disappointed in Nuvaring. After being on it for 7+ months, I started having complications with it and it upsets me, because I loved being on Nuvaring. Didn't have to worry about taking or forgetting those stupid pills everyday. But, I've decided to quit Nuvaring. It almost seems like I have problems with every hormonal bc I've tried after being on it for a while except for Ortho Tri Cyclen. But, of course, my clinic doesn't have those and I don't have insurance.

I enjoyed the NuvaRing for quite some time, but since my insurance covered it in full, I switched to Implanon. I did notice that the longer I was on the ring (a few years) the more sensitive I became to it. I don't know if they changed the formula or not, but about 8 months ago I became very sensitive to it, almost like an inconsistent allergic reaction.
