In November 2007 I started getting long, heavy periods. I went for an ultrasound which showed cysts in both ovaries and a small fibroid. My doctor said she doesn't think it's anything to worry about. I get an ultrasound every few months to keep an eye on these cysts. I had a CA-125 test done which was normal. In Feb 2008, I had a merina IUD inserted to help with the heavy bleeding. My doctor told me that after about 6 months, my periods will stop completely. After the first couple months my periods seem to be lighter but still lasting about 10 days. In June, it was light and it lasted for 10 days. On July 18th, I got my period but it was very light, nothing on July 19th. July 20th-July 23rd, it was light. Then on July 24th and July 25th, it was heavy with a lot of blood clot. On July 26th and today it's light again. I called my doctor and she said that it's normal for my periods to be irregular. I thought my periods would get lighter and lighter? I don't spot between periods, only bleed light and heavy and long when my period comes. Does anyone know anything about the merina IUD? Is it normal for my periods to be light, then heavy then light again and lasting long and irregular? Any information is appreciated.
Thank You,
Bernice
I used to have an IUD. I was fairy happy with it last time that I had it. I actually had it taken out before and then this week I had another one put in.
I used to have very irregular bleeding but it was almost always reallllly light, like barely noticeable. It would only last a day or two but it was more frequent than normal periods. When I had it taken out, I had some crazy clots and things like that though, but I was also starting another birth control at the time and I am not sure which to attribute that to, the pill or the old IUD.
They say it takes around 6 months for the crazy side effects of the Mirena to go away. I would hold out and if things don't go back to normal, then take it out. It is painless to remove. At least, it was for me.
Although, I got yelled at before from a few friends for taking it out instead of waiting a full six months due to my side effects, because they said that their side effects went away after 6 months.
I am trying it again. The side effects that I noticed were not that big of a deal though. I could see where you would be getting sick of heavy periods.
I just had my marana removed today for a few reasons. I was experiencing some pain omn the inside of my right leg eversince I had it put in and the only times I ever experienced this very pain was during pregnancy. My body dealing with progesteron? Also I thought it miight be the reason I am having such a hard time loosing wieght. I also di not experience much bleeding during my cycles and this was wiered to, unatural to me. So I will see if this helps having it removed.
