So is anyone else as excited about Twilight as I am? I just finished the first two books in like 4 days, going to buy the last two tomorrow. I have never been this excited about a book. I like to read, but wow, these books are amazing. I'm not a teen, either :P I'm 25, but these books are written for anyone, really. Movie is coming out on the 21st of November!

Im totally excited to see the movie and im not a teen either! lol...These books are addicting, i just finished the last book and i fell in love with the characters..they are really great books!

I finished all those books about a month or so ago, they were really good. I read them all so fast just couldn't put them down. I haven't seen the movie yet but do plan on it. I heard they are trying to get the other books turned into movies and they want to release them like a year apart.

It took me a week to read all 4 books. I got obsessed with knowing what happens next and still sad the story ended! LOL- but the last book was awesome!

Funny thing is, i read the Twilight series when they came out, was obsessed with them, even got The Host [another Stephenie Meyer book that isn't bad] and now my moms been reading them. She's on Eclipse right now.. She's funny 'cos she keeps coming and asking me about it.

Okay... before I start my rant, I want everyone to know that I'm not attacking you or anything. I just really, really don't understand how anyone could possibly enjoy these books, so I want to ask you all, why?? I know everyone likes different things. I read the first book because people around me were always talking about it, so I figured "hey, if this many people love it, it must be good, right?"
I could not have been more wrong.

1. The book is written in first person, and Bella has zero insight and the blandest personality, if there even is one to be seen, which I tend to think there is not. She's extremely hollow and shallow. The depth of Bella's emotions are the equivalent of someone saying "I'm sad, angry, in love...etc etc" without any type of elaboration. Her character is very unreal. For a girl who's new in town, she sure is picky about who she's seen with - acting as if she's been there a while and already knows the crowds to be with or not, etc. Everyone in school thinks she's pretty, and cool, and want to hang with her, but she's just like "ew, you're not cool enough" and goes after Edward, who is just as personality-less as she is. Bella is supposed to be a "unique snowflake" but she is anything but. She's the hollow shell of a typical "pretty girl", caught up in some weird scenario where she's instantly popular and meeting with the paranormal, where "oh, she's swept off her feet with intrigue and I wonder what happens next!!" She reeks of overused stock characters from the fifties or earlier. In fact, a personality-less character like hers would probably be very successful in a bad black and white sci-fi.

2. I can't get around the HUGE hole in the story surrounding the vampires. Why are they going to school?? To fit in? Why do vampires care about fitting in? They look old enough to be in their twenties, it wouldn't be a stretch to say they graduated. But no, they keep going back to school. Why? Because Meyers is a horrid author that can't think of any other scenario to make her story doable. She needed a way for her two hollow characters to meet, so she's like "hey, I'll just patch this together in the most mediocre fashion possible" and runs with a half-assed storyline, because she can't do any better than that. Seriously, the book read like a fanfic, not a novel written by someone who supposedly graduated with an English degree. (And I'm currently an English major in college, so to think that this woman is considered an author DISGUSTS me to no end).

3. Vampires in Twilight? Are you kidding? Meyers created something, but that something is not a vampire. She even admitted in an interview with Entertainment weekly that she'd never read a vampire book or seen a vampire movie before she wrote the book. She's writing about vampires, yet has never read Stoker or Rice? Are you kidding me? They set the bar for vampires, defined what they are. This is especially true for Stoker, who wrote one of the first vampire novels. But no. It was too much trouble for Meyers to actually portray a vampire the way they're supposed to be. She essentially strips them of their flaws and keeps only strengths, which is a huge NO-NO in creating any character. (Even Bella, who is not a vampire, is flawless. No, clumsiness does not count as a flaw. A character flaw is a personality trait, though I suppose it would be difficult for Meyers to give Bella one, seeing as she has no personality to begin with).
a) Vampires DO NOT SPARKLE. They BURN in sunlight. Vampires are undead creatures. Their skin is weak and sensitive to the sun, which is harsh and full of harmful rays, dangerous even to living skin.
b) Vampires HAVE FANGS and need to feed to keep their undead bodies from deteriorating. Centuries of solitude from society make them apathetic to humans. The differences between undead and humans make it difficult to relate, further creating a gap between them. The whole bit about the Cullen's "trying to fit in" and interact with people is bull. Why would it matter to something that will outlive anyone it comes across? There is no consistency between Meyers interactions and basic psychology. Perhaps she never studied that, either.
c) The only vampires in the book that act like they should are the bad vampires. Figures, doesn't it? They hunt people, have fangs, and are apathetic. They still don't burn in the sun, or have a garlic allergy like they should, but it's closer than the Cullen's.

3. Meyers is a bad writer. Period. Her writing style is comparable to fanfiction, and as poorly put together as formula fiction writers, like James Patterson. The only time she ever attempts to add flavor to her writing is when she describes how perfect Edward is, in which case she uses adjectives in sets of threes, usually all starting with the letter, and only when describing something like Edward's flawless skin, or perfect face. That's it. Her sentences are structured as if she doesn't know what she's doing. She'll be writing along - blah blah blah blah RANDOM BIG WORD, blah blah RANDOM BIG WORD blah RANDOM BIG WORD blah. The next following sentences will be incredibly simple, as the descriptions of Edward are complete, so she has no need to continue WRITING AS AN AUTHOR ACTUALLY SHOULD. I'm offended when someone tries to tell me Meyers is anything but an awful writer. Seriously. The woman says she graduated with a degree in English, but I see no evidence of it.

4. Why are Bella and Edward together? They have no chemistry. Nothing about their interactions suggests "falling in love" or anything about why one likes the other. Bella thinks he's pretty, and Edward likes how she smells? Is this really how we think love occurs?? If so, I'm scared.
Why is Bella not bothered by Edward's obsessive behaviors? He watches her while she sleeps, must know where she is at all times, and on top of that, tells her what to do at every turn, and she just bows down and does it. Edward is the worst example of a boyfriend if I've ever saw one. He's not loving, caring, or understanding, he's possessive, controlling, and emotionally abusive (assuming Bella even has emotions to be abused). I just don't get it. I see their relationship, and it has HORRID written all over it. I would not want a relationship like that, and I just can't understand how any girl possibly could.
What is so attractive about being possessed, controlled, and manipulated? Some please tell me this.

I'm sorry if I have offended anyone with anything I've written, but I wanted to make it clear why I did not like the book. I'm not just a "book hater". I give everything a chance, even Twilight, but I can't understand how you can like it even a little.
Please enlighten me.
