I've been looking around for good books that are along the line of Tolkien: dragons, dwarves, elves etc. The last good series I read was the Eye of the World series by Robert Jordan. Anyone here like this genre and found any gems? I'd like to take a break from English lit for a while!

How about giving the father of "adult fantasy" a try?
William Morris. Yes,that's the same Morris who designed all the wallpaper and fabrics and owned Kelmscott Press.

Omg. The Coldfire Trilogy. Best fantasy books I've ever read.

The Inheritance Circle is not to bad, not quite on the level with Tolkien but still good. Fablehaven, kinda kiddy, but also good.

We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations.

I grew up with LoTR, and have found myself in love with Jim Butcher's novels. He did the Codex Alera, and the Dreseden Files. Alera is more sci-fi fantasy-esque, with Dresden being more real world type fantasy.

My family does tend to find these at the local library, so if you are not sure, you could always try to pick up a free read there.
