I played a lot when I was younger. Don't know what the console's called, some old school stuff anyway.
I played Super Mario, Adventure Island, Circus, Tank Battalion etc.

I like games where a character is running around collecting things and killing off enemies, but in a cartoony way.
I don't like those 'real life' games - men with guns and stuff.

I'd play now aswell, but the consoles and games are too expensive.

I know alot of women (including myself) who likes and enjoys computer/videogames.My friend Anna happens to be one of the head moderators at the Atari Age message boards. And thus I've met other women on that board who like videogames too. Certain games are more marketed towards males tho....soo the general assumption is that women don't like computer games and that's soo not true. Even when I went to the Art Institute for a few years I knew some girls there who were studying to be game designers.

The game River Raid for Atari was actually designed by a woman. One of my roommies in college used to play Tetris on the computer all the time.

    Cool

I grew up playing computer games on an AMIGA and an early Windows model. Then I started playing super nintendo, N64, Game cube, pS2, and now XBox. AND I still play computer games.

I don't own any consoles, but I always had access to them through my friends growing up. Right now I'm really into Modern Warfare 2. I'm getting pretty good at it, better than some of the guys I play with.

It may seem like girls aren't into gaming as much, but don't hook us all together like that man. Some of us were gamers from a young age, and still are. Gaming isn't my life, but when I have time it's a lot of fun and I do recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it already.

O_o Me and most of my female friends are gamers. I have maybe one girlfriend that isn't.

We've all been playing anything we could get our hands on since we were old enough to hold a controller or use a keyboard. I started with Tetris and Oregon trail and Super Mario Bros and Sonic...and today I have most of the next gen systems as well as a gaming laptop and some of the older systems.

I mean, I have my phases where I don't play games for weeks on end but I never thought of gaming as being "un-girly", haha.

Yep, I am the ever elusive "girl gamer"... which I didn't know how rare we female gamers are, until I logged onto a free online game on the PS3, called "Home". But, I have been playing video games since age 7 or 8, starting with arcade centers and then my own home gaming systems. I own very many systems these days and have collected many of them over the years. I still buy video games periodically, for the Nintendo DS and Playstation 3.

Though... as for online games, I don't play them much! I have tried many of these online games and it wasn't the game-play or objective of the game that I had any issue with. Actually, the gaming plots of Everquest, The Sims Online, and a whole host of free MMORPGs (like DarkAges, etc), were very good and fun. BUT, what chased me away from these games (including "Home"), is that female players are so rare, that the guys in these games become huge idiots and will follow and sexually harass any real female player. By "real" I mean, in the games sometimes guys will use female avatars. I don't need validation of my worth, by having a huge crowd of guys yelling, "show us your boobs!", "be my woman!" or "give me head!".... so, I found it annoying and lame, and I couldn't enjoy the games for long. I decided to stick with console gaming. But, that's just my experience of it all. And that's my answer to why I, as a woman, am not into computer games. ;-)

I am a gamer but not that much anymore. For some reason, my eyes easily get strained and I guess I am just saving it for WH now. LOL

    One-sentence answer:
    Because we're console gamers :P
    But seriously ...
my boyfriend can play all that Farmville, Desktop Defender, free online game bull for hours a day ... I hate it. Can't stand it.
I used to play W - O - W (that's my attempt at not attracting spam to this thread, hehe) but I don't have time anymore. Whenever I got on voice chat with a group (low level instances mostly) I would find myself talking to 12-year-old boys who promptly kicked me out of the group for being female and not a 'tard. Either that, or I got gratuitous amounts of gold for being a girl. You win some, you lose some.
Currently I'm re-playing Final Fantasy XII and trying to get the Zodiac Spear and all that good loot. I'm almost always one console behind the times, didn't get my PS2 until the skinny one came out. Didn't upgrade from my original gray NES system until I got a PSone (compact version.) So I game on a budget, basically :P

lol - if I still played, that would be my answer too.

We used to play ALL THE TIME. We'd have Halo LAN parties at our house, stay up for hours and hours playing. Never could stand computer games, bleh. I haven't played anything in years though, other than helping one of the kids here or there with certain games, I think the last thing I did play was Wii Bowling when it first came out.

We've got consoles upon consoles, currently only the Wii is hooked up though. We've burned through 3 360's and I vow to never purchase another one, much to the irritation of others in the house.

Hubby wants to buy a PS3, but my trust that any console is worth the money is pretty low right now.

I wouldn't mind getting back into some games here or there, but just don't have the time really anymore.

    I completely agree! LOL!
I know of a handful of women who are gamers (from an age range of early twenties to late seventies), but it's always console games. And many complain the same thing, about online games... either they are sexually harassed or excluded from groups with the boys yelling, "You're a girl! Go away, guys only!". I personally never had been chased away, because I'm a girl, but I have the issue of being chased after because I am one. :-/

Even with online games that are played on the console.... like Resident Evil 5. I no longer play that online, as too many guys kept hitting on the Sheva avatar, instead of focusing on the game... I was often yelling into the mic, "Stop that! And focus!", with one guy I use to play with, as he would stop and make comments about my avatar's backside... meanwhile, zombies are heading in to rip us apart. :-/
I would have disguised myself as Chris, the male avatar, and just don't speak on mic... But, I can't move Chris well, at all! He moves like a brick! LOL! ;-)
