Are there any decent non soppy books any of you lovely helpful ladies can recommend? Im not really a fan of romantic novels. Except Pride & Predjudice. I dont like celebrity biographies either. It would probably help if I name types of books I DO like..
Historic IE books on volcanoes such as Pompeii.
Nature books
Touching books IE, Stone Cold, I know why the caged bird sings
Fiction books of most kinds
Spooky/Thriller Fiction, such as The Circular Staircase
Feel free to recommend ones that are not on the listNO zombie/vampire/werewolf type books.

Zombie books! Damm, my fave! LOL
I recommend Life of PI. It's fiction and written by Yann Martel. It won a lot of awards and rightly so. It's great!
History books I like, no, no LOVE Surviving the Killing Fields. It was written by Haing S Ngor. It is a harrowing tale describing the insane period of Cambodia's dark history in the 1970's a page turner! You can get it online for about 8 dollars.

A Harvest of Bones is a good one it has some supernatural things, I didn't think I would like it, but I really enjoyed it.
A Parchment of Leaves is also a favorite of mine.
This may be totally off the mark, but I just finished The Other Wes Moore. That book really made me realize the impact of choices and decisions, no matter how small or inconsequential it may seem, on one's life. It is pretty quick reading, it is non-fiction and not my usual type, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and still ponder on it. I would highly recommend it.
Darn I like Vampire books, but mystery novels are my Favorite..
there are three books that spring to mind when anyone asks me to recommend something to read, not in the vampire section (i am a twilight/ann rice fan). The first is little women (love the book, but not everyone's cup of tea). The second is called The Raging Quiet by Sherryl Jordan, it's a quirky book about a young woman who is accused of being a witch for befriending a strange man, but i really enjoyed it. The third book is The Missing by Chris Mooney, it's a thriller about a female detective (couldn't put it down during a weekend camping).
Found a new one...I'm liking the game of thrones series, good tv show and the book is not disappointing
Just finished, Son Of A Witch. Not as good as Wicked but worth reading.
