Default Cervical Cancer question

I just had colposcopy done today (I was supposed to get it a year ago... long story) and they ended up having to do two biopsys.
What is it that they actually see to determine that, and how often does someone get the "bad news" after getting one done? I mean obviously something is there or they wouldn't have done it... so I guess I'm kind of worried. I'm 21 and I do have high risk HPV, and I'm sure waiting a year to get this done could have caused issues...

A little over a year ago I had my first pap and it came back showing High risk HPV. I was supposed to get the colposcopy done right away, but I was in the middle of a move (from Kansas to Florida) and the school I'm going to is very intense, it's taken me a long time to find a doctor and time to get it taken care of. I have had irregular bleeding the past year, it's happend twice where I would spot then bleed over a span of 3-4 weeks. And for about 6 months I would spot for about 10 minutes after intercourse, once those things started happening I really got on the ball to get it done.
The doctors words were "Well, I do see some abnormalties... it doesn't look like it needs treatment right away so we're going to go ahead with the biopsy" and they took two samples and sent me on my way, said they'd call me in 2 weeks with the results.
I know a lot of women go through these procedures, I just dont know that statistics... like how often do those test come back showing cancer. Not to sound negative in any way, but with the problems I've had over the years (and a lot of doctor visits) i'm expecting the worst and hoping for the best. The doctor just wasn't very clear with me so i'm a little confused as to what to expect.

I answered something like this recently. Paps show abnormal cells, there are several levels, 5 is cancer, the rest are degrees of abnormality. I used to get abnormal paps at least every other year, have been biopsied several times and never had a problem. We all have abnormal cells all the time, usually the immune system takes care of them. Stress and some other immune suppresants can lead to the abnormal (cancer) cells getting out of control.

Vigorous sex can cause to have an abnormal pap, so can a host of other things. Most likely this will come back just fine. If there is a lower level problem most likely they will remove some of the tissue from the cervix. I thinkthis is usually done by 'freezing' it. You'll heal up quickly and be fine. The break through bleeding can be a number of things. How regular are your periods? Stress can mess up your cycle and you end up with breakthrough bleeding. Could also be fibriods - do you drink a lot of caffine? That has been tied to fibroids. Try some ginger tea or cookies made with fresshly grated ginger root during your next period, it should make you flow a bit heavier and may help clean you out.

HPV is caused by 15 different viruses. Virtually everyone ends up with some form of it. Stressing about it will probably do you more harm than the virus. Viruses cannot reproduce outside your body cells and require certain amino acids to reproduce. You can reduce their ability to reproduce by altering your diet and taking L-lysine supplements. Take 100mg per 30 lbs body weight at least twice a day. Cut way back on chocolate and nuts as they boost the presence of an amino acid the virus needs to reproduce. A healthy immune system is the real key to health, your body is designed to repair itself. Make sure it is getting the nutriants it needs to do the job.

Wink Regarding cervical cancer

I had this about 10 years ago and recently I have had some symptoms that make me think it is back. Is it possible that it could return? You seem to know quite a lot about it and I think I am scared to the point I am afraid to talk with anyone about it but for some reason different with a stranger IDK?

There is a ton of material out there, you just have to sift through it. It's a good idea to educate yourself before seeing a doctor. Some really keep up with the latest and others don't. What symptoms do you have? Why do you think they might indicate this?

Thanks for the reply. My current symptoms are tingling, sharp pain sensations. These pains are intermittent, off & on, sometimes nothing at all, feels normal, then something starts to happen for just a few secs that's what I mean by wierd, you know? Also, I was told recently hat it could be fibroids, since I told the doc that I used to have them, and his responce was "once you have them (fibroids) you will always have them, so, I guess I just need to get it checked out by a gyn befor i jump to conclusions. I am so scared tho?
