Default Proper Procedures for quitting cigarettes

: My dad is addicted to smoking since last 20 years, earlier it didn’t had much effect but now when he is 50+ his cough level has considerably increased. He is also willing to quit smoking, but he always ended up smoking again. Can anyone help me find a proper guide or procedure to quit smoking permanently? Thanks in advance

there are so many ways to quit..patches,gum,cold turkey, etc etc. i quit 12 years ago using the patch. it wasnt a miracle cure, but it helped reduce the cravings enough to get through it. have him try the patch, and get hime some chewing gum. CLEAN THE HOUSE!this is important.. get rid of all the ashtrays, wash his clothes, bedding, everything that might have a cig smell lingering on it.
in a week or so he will feel like a new man,go out for walks in the fresh air with him.as for the coughing,a humidifier might help. as will lemon and honey tea to soothe his throat. good luck...!

Hypnotherapy is an option.

It sounds like your father has Emphysema.

I'd be careful when considering the patch. It can cause strokes and other problems that really aren't worth it when there are other, more... What's the word? Careful is all I can think of. Less dangerous ways to stop smoking.

I've heard that the book "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr is quite effective at assisting to quit smoking. It's a fairly short book something like 140-ish pages that helped a few of my co-workers in their plight to quit smoking i personally quit smoking in my early 20's but that was only after a few years of actually smoking. I've never read the book myself but it might be wise to look a little further into it! Hope this helps you
