Exclamation Should I be worried about Cervical Cancer?

Hello, I'm 17 years old and have recently become concerned with cervical cancer and whether or not I should be checked. This may be pretty personal, so you don't have to read if it'll make you uncomfortable.

I was silly and became sexually active when I was 14. I'll be getting my first PAP this year, but this forum will determine whether or not I'll get it sooner or wait a bit.

I lost my virginity to a boy I hadn't been dating very long. I broke up with him not long after because we took it waaaaay too fast - I don't need to hear how stupid I was, I already know. I'm pretty confident he was a virgin, but I'm not 100% sure and have no way of getting a hold of him now.

I've been dating my wonderful boyfriend for 2 years now. We've been having sex obviously, and I trust him with every fiber of my being. He'd only had one sexual partner before, and she had none but him. I haven't worried about getting the shot to prevent HPV before because I didn't really hear about it til after we'd started having sex, and I don't plan on having sex with anyone else for a long time (hopefully not ever, because we really love eachother. But I'm 17, so not sure how that will go).

    Now to possible symptoms...
I do not have irregular or abnormal bleeding.

I do have white-clear discharge almost everyday, but I have had that constantly for years. I was told that it's because I'm physically aroused often.

I don't really have pelvic pain as far as I've noticed. HOWEVER sometimes I get a bit of a pain if my boyfriend goes in me really deep, but I have no idea if that's normal or not. I feel like it's not, which is what originally made me worried about cervical cancer. I'm extremely short waist-ed and just generally small down there, so if I wait awhile to have sex, I usually get like... stretched open... (That was kind of awkward to type. I'm usually pretty quiet about this stuff with everyone but my boyfriend and my mom.)

After sex sometimes I do have painful urination, but I've always assumed it's because it's all getting like, cleaned out. It kind of feels like when I'd take bubble baths as a kid and it would hurt really bad to pee 'cause I got soap up there or something.

    And finally,
I do bleed after sexual intercourse every once in awhile. But I can only assume that it's because I'm unusually 'tight' up in there, because it usually hurts/I bleed when I haven't had sex in a little while.

Again, I'm sorry if that was super personal and/or graphic. I hope it didn't offend you. I go to planned parenthood for my needs in this area because my family's extremely short on cash what with me going to college next year.

Any possible help would be greatly appreciated!
    Sincerely, CamilleDawn

That's a good thing, no worries there.

Unless the discharge is colored, smells, you itch or you have other symptoms similar, I don't believe you have any reason to worry. I've had it for numerous years and have always had a clean pap and I go religiously every year.

More than likely he is bumping up against your cervix during deep penetration which is generally uncomfortable. Depending on your position during sex, he can get deeper easier, so if it is uncomfortable to you, change positions to where he cannot go as deep.

Sometimes when I'm over stimulated down there, this can happen to me as well. If it last for days, it could be a UTI. But in my opinion, if it is just a few hours after sex, no worries. I will add, whenever he uses his hands on you down there, make sure they are clean, that can also contribute to a UTI.

The bleeding, I'm not so sure about, especially if you've been sexually active for a few years. Maybe some others have some additional input. Again, if he's using his fingers in you before, make sure his nails are trimmed and they can knick you inside and cause a little bleeding.

All in all, I don't believe you have any reason to worry about cervical cancer, based on your post. It is good that you are going for your first pap, as it is important once you become sexually active.

Thank you so much I always hoped that's all it was, but I'm extremely paranoid about things like this.

I am pretty cautious about things like that. I've had a bladder infection before. My mom says our family's extremely prone to them (I don't know the chemistry of that. But with what I've heard it's pretty true) and no one in my family's ever gotten a yeast infection. I guess we're weird.

It's hardly any bleeding. Usually just some pinkish - not super heavy period-like blood or anything. I feel rather comfortable with that, but I'll talk to the woman at Planned Parenthood about it when I can.

    Thanks for all your help!
    Sincerely, CamilleDawn

    Cam-
I'd echo all L-bear said and just add that to prevent cervical C, please take the HPV vaccination. It will protect ya from many strains of genital warts (very bad stuff in it'self!!) AND , since it's known that the virus that causes g-warts also causes cervical C, will greatly lower the chances of that as well.
    that and yearly pap's - good !

How soon should one get a PAP Smear? I know it's off topic but I'm just like Camille worried about this disease.

I know this post is from awhile ago but I wanted to also put my input about the hpv vaccine! I too, for awhile figured oh well i'm already active no use in getting it now. BUT no matter what you really really should consider getting the shots! My mom passed away when I was 16 from cervical cancer and I always told myself I would get it for sure, no questions asked. Trust me when I say you don't ever want to end up with cancer, especially that form. The shot is not that bad at all just feels like you got a charlie horse in your arm

I was recently diagnosed and received treatment for squamous cell carcinoma stage one cervical cancer. After 3 abnormal results I had a biopsy done and got the results. I had done a whole lot of research online about it and ever after the diagnosis and treatment I'm still not all the worried. Mine was one of the most reatable types and I'm pleased to say I'm doing fine after treatment.

I would urge anyone with any type of concern whatsoever to have a PAP test. It literally saved my life.

I had abnormal paps for years. I've had the biopsy, the freezing thing, the cryo thing. Then all good. One abnormal pap in about 10 years and the next was normal.
So don't stress too much. Just stay on top of your doctor visits and monitor your body.
