Exclamation Left breast pain - TERRIFIED

Hi everyone... I am new to this site.

I am 28 years old, with no children, and I am a smoker. For about three days now, I've had pain/soreness in my left breast. It is mostly in the upper outer quadrant and somewhat underneath my breast. I DO have a history of fibrocystic breasts - but I've never had pain in only one breast before. Can anyone help? It feels slightly swollen, but mainly heavy and sore.

I have a major fear of cancer - my mom died of cancer February 2010 (not breast cancer). I get very paranoid when I feel ANYTHING out of the ordinary. And of course, I look up info online, and get even more scared. Has anyone ever felt that they may be that one exception to the rule? Today, all I have seen is info on inflammatory breast cancer. I am petrified!

Please help... Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I'm sorry about your mother, I lost mine to cancer too. It is a difficult thing to deal with.
There are number of things that could cause this. It could be as simple as you bumped and bruised under the surface without realizing it at the time. If it is also under your breast, could you have pulled your ribs?

Why not wait a couple days, see if it resolves and if not get it checked?

If you are so afraid of cancer Why are you smoking? I quit years ago and it does make a difference on so many levels of your life. Within a few years your risks levels will drop dramatically. Please focus your attention on this step to better health. Smoking can affect your cancer and health risks in far more than your lungs!

    Unhappy

I don't know what this could be. I haven't run into anything or lifted anything heavy lately. This just started out of the blue on Friday. Earlier, most of the pain was in the upper outer ares. That area is still somewhat sore, but most of the pain now is underneath the breast (on top of the breastbone). I really don't think a bruised or cracked rib is the issue.

I know fibrocystic breast disease can cause your breasts to become sore in rhythm with your period, but mine isn't due for another 10 days or so. I am so nervous and scared. My yearly obgyn appointment is on April 7 - I hope the pain subsides by then. I would be too nervous to have it checked out.

The occurrence of IBC is rare, but I know it can occur in younger women. I just don't know what to do or think.

Question Pain/discomfort/fullness is now in both breasts

Well, now the fullness/discomfort/slight pain is in both breasts...which is actually comforting! There is no possibility of pregnancy - I haven't had sex! I guess it's all from the fibrocystic breast disease. I just bought some evening primrose oil- I'll be trying it tonight. What do you guys think?

Oddly enough, today, while I was feverishly googling my symptoms, I found a connection between Wellbutrin and breast pain. I just recently began taking Wellbutrin about two weeks ago. Has anyone else heard of this or experienced this?

I think I would be more concerned about the smoking particularly with your family history. Kind of like dumping gas on a fire, don't you think?

I am actually trying to quit... The Wellbutrin has really curbed the cravings...

Good for you! Getting that nicotine and tar out of your body will help.

HI. I am much older then you. 46. I have the same exact problem. It is one of two things. Fibroid cysts. I imagine.. you can have them in one or both breasts.. and they are usually.. benign and you deal with them. Mine can be from hormones. Or.. my friend who is a RN had burning pain and she went to the doc and had a infection in her patuitary gland. They gave her an anti biotic. No big deal. I had this once before.. and it eventually went away. So.. I think mine is the fibroid cysts.
