Default Is there more pressure on females to be good looking than men?

I am semi curious if there is more pressure for women to be pretty. If so, where does this pressure stem from?

Societal pressures in general are on both men and women. I think there's more on women, but maybe I'm biased because I'm female. From what I've seen from my male friends, men tend to focus on their appearance in a competitive way. They are always commenting on how other men look, how much they lift in the gym, etc etc. Women tend to focus on appearance based on acceptance and attention from men.

Neither are healthy in my opinion.

Also, it seems you never see a really good looking guy with an average or below average looking female. But you often see a very pretty gal with an over weight frumpy guy.

    Just an observation.

    I can tell you why.

Honestly, we as guys never date down. Real men are really goal oriented. We try to pursue a better career(or at least something that challenges us a little), try to lift more weight in the gym, we always try to upgrade our intellect. We ALWAYS work hard and strive to make our lives beter

Dating a girl that's uglier would be like shooting for a career that is below what you can do or get. Therefore, you never see a guy with a girl considerably uglier than him.

For example, I am pursuing a Bachelors in Radio graphic Sciences which is a little bit more than I can handle(You have to take Calc, physics, chemistry ect. for this). If I wanted to pursue a degree that was easy for me, I would go for elementary education. However, I like to strive for the best I can get in life.

This is why they have a hard time getting MATH teachers. Any male capable of getting a degree in Math would go become a actuary. He isn't going to settle as a math teacher. Since females generally don't enjoy math, they have a hard time getting math teachers overall

I guess it's just one of the perks of being a guy, you can date females better looking than you. Of course, we are expected to make good money, be built, and be intelligent. So, we have our own little societal pressures too.

In a nutshell, here are the perks to both sexes:

    Men

Pros: You can be a really ugly guy and get a decent to pretty looking female by working out, becoming interesting to talk to, and developing a career.

    Cons:

Has to work out to look good(much harder task than losing weight)

Expected to support a whole household(lots of pressure there)

    Females

Pros: -No pressure to develop a career

-Only has to be skinny to have a good body(again, lifting wieghts is
    BRUTALLY harder)

Cons: -If your an ugly/overweight women your kinda ed(pardon my
language). Your only options are other ugly un-motivated men
since men won't date girls uglier than them(a
motivated ugly guy with a good job can get a decent to good
    looking female)

I'm sorry but I find your perceptions completely inaccurate and sexist.

It's outlooks like the above that cause women to have body image issues.

You don't think there is no pressure for a woman to develop a career? You think a man is expected to support a whole household?

Furthermore, there IS somebody for everybody. To stereotype that an ugly/overweight woman has little to no options is so inconsiderate and far fetched.

    I completely agree!

and honestly, I don't care if someone is the hottest guy out there, if he's a jerk. Different people find different things attractive.
