two months ago i started loestrin 24fe. for the first month i was abstinent due to the fact that i was taking an antibiotic. they told me that it was safe to start having sex without a backup method after that first cycle with the antibiotics. I am in the middle of my second pack right now and have been taking my pills exactly on time every day. i had two questions. one is now i am having a light brown discharge that is like the start of my period when i go to the bathroom now for two days this has been going on. is this normal? and i hate to ask but could this be an "im pregnant thing"? also, after my days on placebos do i have to wait for seven days after im back on the white pills to have sex even though they start right after the brown pills? or is it ok to start having sex again as soon as i start back on the white pills? this is my first experience with birth control and this is makin me just a little nervous (my fiancee too!!!) Thanks in advance guys (girls i guess )

Waiting a couple days between placebo and new pack

Is there a risk of waiting a few days after taking your placebo pills before starting your next pack of active pills?

Say, for instance, I take my placebo pills for 7 days and then I wait an additional 3 days before I begin my next pack. Will the pill still be effective in preventing pregnancy (maybe after seven days?), or is it like when beginning the pill for the first time not on your cycle -- that is, would i have to wait a whole pack like this before it is effective without a backup method again.

Thanks.

Sometimes I'll skip the last week of my birth control, the placebo pills with no hormones in them, the ones that cause your period. If I skip this last week and go straight to the next pack with the first week of hormones, like I sometimes do, am I still fully protected from pregnancy during sex? Currently my boyfriend and I use condoms anyways because I'm honestly not sure if I'm still protected when I don't take them the way I'm instructed to. Does anyone know?

Thanks!

PMS while on the pill?

I was just curious if anyone else still noticed PMS symptoms leading up to their "period" when on the pill. I would think the hormones in the pill would override the hormones in your body enough that your body wouldn't know when you were supposed to be PMS-ing, so to speak. Especially since you shouldn't be ovulating or anything along with it. But I have still consistently noticed an increase in irritability/food cravings/disrupted sleep (which I used to get as PMS) in the week leading up to my "pill period." Does anyone else have this happen? Is it even possible? Or is it likely just a side effect of the pill that I just happen to notice more at this time?

Hello,

I recently had a copper IUD removed. My body expelled the device after 3 months. I've never had a pregnancy and was told my chances of expelling another IUD has gone up 20-30%. I do not want children, but am not ready for complete sterilization either. Should I bother getting another IUD (it was EXTREMELY painful to insert) and wage the chances of it being expelled again?

Thank you.

Hi There,
I have been on the pill for years now, it has always been the way to go for me. I never had too many terrible side effects. For years however, I have noticed that in pictures I always have a kind of dark shade over my upper lip. Mustache like... but not quite that bad. At first I thought it was hair, I tried waxing.. then I thought it was freckles, or sunspots so I have been using a cream that is suppose to lighten dark spots. I recently read in a magazine that the hormones in bc can cause these spots...and I kind of put two and two together. Has anybody else experienced this?? Could lower hormone bc help this go away? or any non hormonal bc suggestions. I have heard both good and bad about the copper IUD, but the idea kind of scares me.

Been spotting for two weeks...but on the pill?

This "pill month" I've been non-stop spotting... and I have to say, it really sucks! I'm 2 weeks into my month, I have one week of apparently more spotting to go before, hurray, I get my period. :(

I haven't spotted like this since the first time I took the pill..back in 2007. Everything's been fine... and now all the sudden I have a month of light-heavy spotting? What's wrong with me.

I want it to stop! It's not exactly fun to be stuck in period mode 24-7, I'm afraid to have sex, and it's just something I have to constantly think about.
Maybe it's from stress? I lost one of two jobs recently, and I'm moving out of my bf's appartment, back in with my dad... the plan is that we're still dating but I've been stressed because it feels like we might break up.

But I would have expected stress to delay the period, not give me one for an entire friggen month.

Any other reasons why I may be non-stop spotting???

I am 22, and have been on the pill (Loestrin 24) for six months. I had spotting during the first few months of being on the pill but since then I haven't, which is one of the reasons the following is concerning me so much. I'm a week before the placebos, and I have had 2 days of light spotting and cramps that felt a lot like mild menstrual cramps. Before taking BC, I had this occur frequently during ovulation, but I doubt that it is this time for two reasons: one, I technically should not be ovulating, and two, even if I did it is a week later into my cycle than ovulation should occur. My boyfriend and I have had sex several times over the past few weeks, every time with a condom as extra protection and to my knowledge there was never a break in the condom. However, the symptoms I described seem to match that for implantation bleeding pretty well and are at the time you would expect implantation bleeding. It is making me paranoid!! I am in a situation where I very much do not want to become pregnant at this time. What does it sound like to you? =/

I'm taking Yaz for birth control. I wanted to delay my period for two days (not skip it altogether). So, I took two extra active pill from an extra pill pack that I have lying around for emergencies. Then, I took all of my placebo pills, and am about to start a new, full pack of Yaz. Am I still protected against pregnancy?

ie. Oct 15 - Nov4 (1 pack) + Nov 5 - Nov 6 (2 extra pills)
Nov 14 (new pack)

Many Thanks!

A Warning for Yasmin/Yaz users

I have posted this on a different thread already but i thought i should post it on a new one so more ladies see it. After reading about some horrific side effects of Yas/Yasmin i decided to check out the wikipedia and this is what i found..

"In 2008, a series of television commercials prompted the FDA to cite Bayer for overstating the approved uses of Yaz while failing to adequately address the risks of the drug. Bayer was required to dispel the inaccurate information contained in those ads by creating new ads that clarified the drug's approved uses.[1][2] On October 8th, 2009, Bayer disclosed that 129 lawsuits had been brought against them over the side effects and marketing of Yaz and Yasmine.[1] The allegations include (but are not limited to): Glossing over risks associated with the products and overstating their approved uses in an effort to mislead users of Yaz and Yasmin into believing that the drugs were safe.[1][2][3][4]Failure to properly research the medication.[3]Failing to recall the drug after post-marketing reports demonstrated that the risk of potentially life-threatening side effects of Yasmin and Yaz outweighed potential benefits that could be achieved via other available oral contraceptives.[1][3] In September 2009, the FDA cited Bayer for sending out potentially low-quality batches of drosperinone.

Since being switched from Loestrin to Yasmin i have suffered horrendous migraines, sickness and dizziness, exhaustion and more recently extreme pain/pressure in my torso. I am 20 years old and have only been on this pill for three months.

Hopefully women will realise how dangerous this pill is and stop taking it. I was very much in two minds about what to do after discovering all this info, should i complete the course then switch? Or do i get the off the things and start from scratch? Yesterday i flushed all my pills down the toilet (and changed my GP)

Hello,

I started taking sprintec, which is a monophasic generic form of ortho-cyclen as a 3 month pill, like seasonal, so I don't have to get my period as often.

When I started it, I bled for 13 days straight. It finally stopped, but now (I am on the second pack at the moment) my breasts are very tender, like how they would be if I was about to get my period, and it has been making me wonder if I am pregnant, as I shouldn't be experiencing breast tenderness due to PMS etc if I am not ovulating. I took a pregnancy test on Saturday, and it was negative.

Is breast tenderness just something that happens on this pill? Also, if I missed a pill by 12 hours or so, during the last pack is there really any reason to worry?

Also just in general, how confident do you feel having your partner ejaculate inside of you while on birth control? Do you use a back-up method? I have used spermicide VCF film for that, but it still makes me nervous. Thoughts?

Thanks!

hi everyone. i have been super afraid that i will get pregnant, but all my friends, and even my doctor told me that it should be no problem after hearing my situation. alright, my situation is: i had PROTECTED sex during my fertile days. so we put on the condom right from the start. no penetration until the condom is on. halfway during the deed, i saw my white mucus on the condom, so i was very sure that session was during my fertile days. and i told him right from the start that no cumming inside of me. so he did not *** inside of me, i watched him *** outside of me, so definitely no ejaculation inside of me. so what is the chances that i really can get pregnant? i cannot be pregnant, because its never my intention to, its just that i miscalculated my days, and had sex during ovulation days!!! the only reason why im afraid, is because its during the ovulation period. PLEASE HELPPP. btw, i did pregnancy tests, im about a week away from my period, so far negative. i have been so paranoia to the point i already bought 3 kits man. so, please advice! much love and thanks.
